Gregorius shimmers in the glass with a rich dark maroon colour. In the nose herbal and licorice aromas dominate, which are combined with ripe fruit notes. It presents a strong malt body, which is characterised by coffee and roasted aromas. Honey from the region and Alsatian wine yeast conjure up a nice sweet and sour game on the palate. Slightly bitter chocolate flavors accompany the warming finish of this powerful Trappist beer. Deep - Thoughtful.

tap at Three Fires - Pours dark amber with a minimal head. The aroma is of honey, dark fruit, caramel malt, and alcohol. It tastes of sweet caramel malt and dark fruit with the alcohol mostly buried. Full bodied and smooth going down, this is a tasty beer.

Sweet flavour of caramel, malt, overripe fruit, alcohol, candy sugar with a dry bitter finish. Medium body with oily texture and soft carbonation.

330ml bottle from Drinks of the World, Winterthur. Pours thick black with tan head. Dark treacle and damsuns aroma. Taste brings dark fruits, molasses and thin liquorice with smooth caramel emerging throughout and a warming liquor at the back of the throat. It’s a drinkable quad for sure but not quite hitting the high notes of its Belgian brethren.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg. Dark brown with a beige head. Malty aroma with dark fruits but also a bit of rotten flowers to be honest. Remember when you were a kid and you tried to make perfume by putting a lot of flowers in plain water? the smell you got when opening the bottle after a few days is similar to the aroma of this Gregorius. The taste is decent enough but the whole experience is a bit spoiled by the rotted aroma. Maybe this bottle was spoiled, maybe I don’t know hoe to taste beer and maybe this just isn’t a very good beer. Will re-rate though.

Bottle, found at El Corte Ingles, Arguelles, Madrid. Berrylike aroma with a hint dark chocolate. Ruby brown, low head. Fairly fruity base flavour: Cherries, bananas, tomatoes?? Spicy belgian yeast, a hint wood, some pralines. Dry body, mellow mouthfeel, chewy body. In the desert end of the spectrum, quite pleasant though.

On tap at Refuge in Menlo Park. Aroma of chocolate and slight dark fruit. Deep brown with a solid brown head. Taste lacked complexity for a Quad, mostly with chocolate and fruit matching the aroma. Alocohol masked.
