Bottle at Craig’s. Pours deep dark brown, thin tan head. Dark chocolate, booze, some apples. Taste has dark sugar, more booze burn, but a chocolatey creaminess that balances out. Long bitter chocolate finish. Nice.

33 cl bottle @ tiong, bottle #1689
Vertical with 666-ish
Aroma is more ’fresh’ and sweet than 666-ish. Also less stale. It has ripe apples, some smoky tones and licorice. Also strong oaty notes. Flavour has oat, cognag, ripe apples, and licorice. Feels a bit old and moldy. Not bad still, more mellow and less aggressive than 666.

Specialty version of the renowned Hel & Verdoemenis, wood-aged. Sticky beige head, black colour; complex, powerful and appealing aroma of coffee, fondant, toasted bread, dried plums, cognac, caramel; thick malty taste, chocolatey, soft carbonation, strong and assertive roasted bitterness, very mouth-filling, oily, with warming, brandy-like alcohol in the finish that never becomes disturbing. Very big, very well-balanced, very exciting Molen beer.

Bottle thanks to MrH! Pours opaque black with a small creamy brown head that dissipates slowly and laces well. Subdued roasty cognac aroma, chocolate, some coffee as well. Flavor is quite nice, cognac present but not overpowering the stout characteristics. Light sweet, light bitter with some bitterness lingering to the finish. No real astringency per se. Lots of roasted malts, a bit of ashtray. Perhaps a bit hot for 10%, but not too bad. Body a little lighter than I expected, but otherwise a full out winner.

Rating #3000!
330ml bottle from De Molen Beershop
Bottle #1637, bottled DEC 5 2012 - Pours pitch black with a sticky and bubbly light brown head. Aroma of lovely oaky wood, roasty malts, stingy alcohol, hints of cognac, vanilla, dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is smooth and soft but complex with some roastiness, wood, oak, cognac, dark chocolate and oily coffee. Finish is warming, slick and smooth with some roastiness, oaky cognac notes, smoked wood and sweet vanilla. Elegant, heavy but still pretty soft and yet quite complex barrel aged imperial stout. An enjoyable slow sipper. 9-4-8-4-17 = 4.2
Re-rated on 23.8.2014. Bottle #1689. Vertical with 666-ish. Feels heavier than 666-ish and the cognac notes are much heavier than the whisky notes in 666-ish. This is slightly better.
