We’re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form.
We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale.
First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

Keg at Brewdog Shepard’s bush. Aroma is light dank piney hops with nutty and some ashy roast. Nice caramel brown coloured pour, lasting cream head. Palate is nice and full with smooth carbonation. Flavour is nutty, light roast malts, with pine and resin, varnish, warming alcohol. Slightly odd tang to it maybe some dank hop. Big lingering hop bitterness. Really good

This was poured into a pint glass and a tulip. There was barely any difference between the two glasses.
The appearance was a black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing sliding into the beer.
The smell had a nice roasty bitter coffee to sweet citrusy pine aroma with a rolling light chocolate underneath.
The taste was sweet citrus to roasty and had the chocolate only come out really underneath.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but not overbearing.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good black IPA I’d have again.

Nicely done black IPA, lots of roast grain and hop bitterness without being overwhelming. Black with abundant beige head, smell mostly of roast grains, hops come in at the taste. Nice mellow bitter finish, some lingers, making you want more.,

22 oz. bottle from Natures Way Market. Dark brown bordering on black with thin lasting tan head. Aroma is the classic Stone pine and citrus hop nuances. Notes of charred chocolate malt and ash.
Flavor of coffee grounds, earthy dirty chocolate malt, mild traces of citrus and pine needles of a light lingering bitter finish. Moderate amount of bitterness that has a nice balance with the dark malts. (One reason I love the style is the dark malts with a healthy bitterness) Body is leaning on full. Texture is lightly oily with wet hop oils and pine. This is remarkable for a nationally distributed brew, awesome example for what a Black IPA should be. Finely crafted.

A colablack beer with a big, beige and clouding head. The aroma is great, grapefruits and pine needles, liquirice, some tropical fruits. The balance is great in the aroma, the "black nuancees" are not dominating. Taste is strongly bitter, pine needles and some resin, dry roastiness, grapefruits. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Very smooth, velvet like to drink, enjoyable. The great beer, enough of bitterness, succesfully balance and velvet palate gives the final touch.

Poured from 12 fl oz bottle. Dark brown, near black with beige head. Light aroma of hops and subtle fruit. Flavour quite hoppy and dry with a bit of chocolate and subtle caramel malt. Very oily texture. Full body.

Black with a big brown head - Good malt aroma with caramel and there is olso a nice hoppy fruity aroma - A very good malt body with some caramle and roasted malt, and the hops is olso very good with some pine and bitterness - The hops continues into the finish with a good bitterness - This was a very good and tasty beer
