Pours amber red with a tiny head. Aroma of tart berries, sour yeastiness, wood, oak and vinous notes. Taste is sour, woody and oaky with some tart berries, yeast and vinegary notes. Finish is heavy, sour, woody and sweetish with some tart berries. Quite tasty but very sour and heavy.

Not bad at all. A little unbalanced towards the sweet end if the spectrum, the palate is syrupy for my liking. Pours translucent maroon with good lacing and initial head. Has lots of sour plum and crab apple. Some barrel astringency in finish, but comes off well. This grows on me after a few sips. Tap at Alibi Room. 2015 update. Not sweet anymore. Tangy and great. Apricot and sour plum. Tangy finish. Much better.

On tap at St Augustine’s. Pours a cloudy orange/brown with very light head. Aroma of sour mash and wet wood. Quite sour. Flavors of sour candy, wood, vinegar, and citrus.

A reddish amber sour ale with no head. In aroma, a smooth sour cherry with light corky notes, and a bit of maple, quite nice. In mouth, a sour cherry with some light buttery notes, a bit of leather and horseblanket, a bit thin and astringent. On tap at Alibi Room, March 22, 2012.

Cloudy light brown color, almost no head. The aroma is sour, with some acetone, some fruits, balsamic vinegar, and some rotten fruits; I can almost see the fruit-flies. Good body strength, and round mouthfeel; the acidity punches immediately, it’s strong but acceptable; there are fortunately just traces of acetone, with fruity touch, some malt, and a hidden biscuity note; the high alcohol content is not immediately evident. If possible, some sugar can be perceived.

Reddish-amber, cloudy and with a thin head. The aroma is balsamic, almost nail polish remover phenols....borders between awesome and clusterfuck. Lightly lactic, balsamic, slick and the strength is nowhere to the found. The palate I’m guessing the slickness is diacetyl that I’m not tasting. Might be some cherries somewhere. This is actually quite authentic, rustic, regional example like the Felix oud bruin or something like that.

Earlier rating: On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a cloudy maroon / red with no head. Aroma of sour fruits, very citric notes, Worcestershire sauce, and tobasco / BBQ sauce. Flavour brings out these weird sauces more in the flavour with massive sourness. ABV is completely hidden. Not my cup of tea (or should I say beer?), with way too much acidity and Worcestershire sauce. Quite bad. 5 3 4 2 8
Later rating: Either the recipe has changed or this has matured amazingly well with age. Now it's an authentic Flanders Red with a great balance of tart fruits, the right amount of vinegar, and oak barrels. Warming and dangerous to drink. Very nice stuff. 7 4 7 3 14
