Tap. Pours clear pale Amber, medium white head, creamy with nice lacing. Aroma is grassy, Bready, hay, grains. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter. Seems like a pretty classic example of the style. Not sure why the low ratings. Maybe it sucks in bottle. Medium body.

Hungarian standard lager named after the 19th-century brewer Anton Dreher, a famed lager pioneer to whom we owe the Vienna lager style and who bought this Hungarian brewery in 1862, hence the historical link. Cristal clear, pale yellow blonde colour with vivid sparkling supporting a medium thick, densely structured, stable head remaining closed for most of the time and leaving refined lacing. Aroma strongly lightstruck (ammonia), as the green bottle already made me wary of; otherwise some sourish and sweaty graininess, vague hints of white bread and grassy hops. Tastes crisp and ’clean’, minerally with a thin mouthfeel, sourish carbonation, grainy and very lightly malty but not becoming sweet so mostly remaining neutral, slick and a lot less metallic than I had feared, with a rather neutral finish in which some late grassy hop bitterishness develops, but fades away again quite rapidly. Very neutral and thin, to the point where it can be described as ’watery’, but nevertheless quite honest and quenching - but the same thing can be said of mineral water as well. Still interesting to taste a lager from a country not normally known for its beer culture. Many thanks to Sabine for bringing me the bottle from Budapest!

Thanks to Regis P and his in-law for sourcing this from Hungary!
Appearance: Golden, clear and fizzy. Some short-lived white head. Aroma: Shy hops and malt - not much. Taste: Some malt and grains, slight bitterness. Not bad, but not exciting either. Info: 500ml bottle, 3/5-2014, BB: 6/10-2014

Big white head. Clear yellow body with carbonation. Light mealy grassy aroma, very vague. Dryish mealy grassy taste with herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish mealy grassy aftertaste with faint spicy papery notes. Decent, but boring. (0.5l draft at Karpatia, Budapest.)

Pours a clear, golden color with lots of bubbles and a generous white head that soon settles down to only a small cover. Typical, generic aroma of malts and grains is subtle but easily picked up. The taste starts on the sweet side and continues with a nicely balanced body. All of that coming together for a nice bitter finish and a pleasant lasting aftertaste. Not a bad one, actually.
