Much like the name, this beer is plagued with an ominous past, and we brewed it 3 times before it finally made its way to the public. Dark, hoppy, and with a mind of its own, Gotham has put us through the ringer. Complex, bold aromatics of citrus rind and dark berries, lingering bitterness of orange pith, pine resin and dark cocoa.
Malts: Vienna, Marris Otter, Carafa Special III, Caramunich III, Carafoam.
Hops: Amarillo, Citra
Yeast: American Ale

A hazed deep dark brown ipa with a creamy brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark coffee, resinous hops, light dank notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice chocolate malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light coffee, pleasant and smooth. On tap at Beer town Toronto.

Bottle from brewery on Ossington in Toronto drank at home in Hong Kong. Dark dark cola brown pour with foamy tan head. Aroma is not as black and roasty as expected - resin and almost tropical fruit. Taste has more roasted malt but dominated but deep citrus and resin hoppy bite with a solid boozy burn. A little thin on the palate maybe. Very sharp on the taste. A good not great big black IPA

Bouteille 500ml, gracieuseté de msjpearson, Thanks Mike! Couleur brune foncée presque opaque, mousse moka pâle onctueuse persistante laissant une belle dentelle. Arôme de houblon résineux, malt torréfié, mentholé, chocolat noir. Goût de malt torréfié, café, houblon résineux, chocolat noir, amertume plutôt ténue. Carbonatation moyenne-faible, corps moyen.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large brown foamy head with good retention. Aroma of roasted malt with some earthy and piney hops notes. Taste is also dominated by roasted malt with some earthy hops and piney hops. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation. Not as hoppy as I had expected but still very enjoyable with good balance.

Bottle - Roasty dark malts and grapefruit hops. Deep opaque brown with a decent light brown head. Roasty malts and very nice hoppy pine. Bitterness is primarily on the finish. Well balanced and easy drinking.

500mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours black with a medium tan head. Nose is full of roasted malt and piney hops - very bold and elegant aromatics. Flavour is extremely robust and amazingly elegant, with roasted malt, dark berries, wonderful piney and resinous hops, and finishing roast, dry and fruity. Wow, what an elegant imperial black IPA. Really rich, multi-layered and dynamic in the mouthfeel. Phenomenal stuff once again from Bellwoods.

Bottle from the brewery. Dark brown pour with reddish highlights. Large thick khaki head that lingers and leaves spotty lace. Nose is dominated by pine with a moderate amount of coffee and cocoa with lighter notes of grapefruit and smoke. Moderate sweet chocolate at the front with a a bigger pine bitterness in the middle leading to a dry bitter finish. Medium full creamy mouth with soft carbonation. Should have gotten more of this when I had the chance.
