Poleeko Pale Ale is an exceptionally flavorful and well-balanced beer. With a bright, citrus hop profile and mild malt flavors reminiscent of English biscuits, the aromas of pink grapefruit and lemon zest compliment the brisk, balanced finish to create a truly refined American Pale Ale.

Troebel geel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is goed hoppig bitter en fris zuur fruit, citrus en grapefruit. Smaak blijkt redelijk lang hangen. Drinkt makkelijk weg.

Bottle from local AH. Nose is hoppy, bit of sweat, sulphur, onion, and some other odd unidentifyable aromas. Flavour is light hoppy, malty, bit of caramel, light bodied. Finish is fairly bitter.

Anderson Valley’s APA, now for sale at the Albert Heijn supermarkets, of which there are some in Belgium as well nowadays. Deep ’old gold’ colour, with somewhat orangey hue, a bit paler than usual for the style, clear with calm sparkling; densely lacing, medium thick, regular, off-white head. The aroma strikes me: I have rarely encountered a beer aroma this ’weedy’ and vegetable-like. I get impressions of Persian hogweed juice (very strongly so, a first for me in any beer!), nettles, sorrel and thistles, raw rhubarb, lime zest, dough, rancid butter, unripe green plums and wild berries. Rather neutral onset with strong, tingling, minerally carbonation, sourish grainy accent paired with unripe fruits, fairly thin malt body, mostly a grainy pale malt sweetness as in a pale lager but with a slight nutty touch as well; increasing ’weedy’ and grassy hoppiness, ending dry and bitter, but not too ’biting’ (the difference between IPA and APA, I guess) with a remnant of the pale maltiness creeping through. Weird, fascinating for the aroma of wild fruits and fresh weeds (made me feel like I had been working in my garden all day)... The taste is okay, no big flaws here, but as far as I am concerned, below average for an APA and even for an Anderson Valley beer. Hopefully Albert Heijn expands their range to their IPAs too, which I would prefer well over this. Still, correct and very drinkable.

330 ml. bottle @ home. Purchased @ Alber Heijn. BBF 24-12-2015. Clear orange, creamy white head. Nose is pretty dull, sweetish, light banana, bread, yeasty, light cloves, sugary,… Taste is yeasty, bread, aspirin & light moldy cardboard bitterness, sugar, cloves, sweetish, light plaster, light lemon,… Creamy, touch yeasty body,… Rather bland, it is a bit like intentional muzak,… I cannot criticize because I assume that they were going for a beer with minimal flavor & minimal involvement required but I prefer more. It is okay for what it is for sure. The aspirin-like bitterness doesn’t really work all that well for me.
