Taste; The lightly coloured malts give the beer a soft malty flavour, with a touch of bitterness at the end derived from the Fuggles hops.

Draught @ Taproom De Ranke. Pours a slightly unclear glowing gold, large white head. Herbal fresh hop nose, continuing to taste. Very fresh-tasting, rustic malt grain, medium bodied, medium carbonation, a little too herbal but overall a nice speciale.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Bready pale malt aroma with herbal notes, some caramel, herbal hops, grains, grassy notes. Moderate bittersweet flavour, body is medium. Interesting herbal hop twist. I'm not a big fan of 'Spéciale Belge' Ambers but leave it to De Ranke to make something exciting out of it.

Can't believe I never rated this. Sampled numerous times. medium light amber pour, constistent and medium sized foam. Well-pronounced hoppyness (earthy side) , but more so in the taste (and it's bitterness) than the aroma. very slight, crisp caramelly (amber)malts / Toasted bread. Easy drinker, medium body and medium to medium high carbo. Very refreshing and easy going, enjoyable beer !

This one tastes acrid and clouded and clumsy. I’d try again, but this one at Gijs ams I didn’t think was spectacular.

Pours a moderately hazy, slightly translucent amber, with a medium to big sized compact, pillowy white head that shows good retention and lacing. The aroma is quite subdued, with a light biscuity and caramel malts base followed by fruity hints (in the likes of citrus jam). Definitely more interesting and more intense in taste (still a mild, delicately flavoured beer): biscuity and caramel malts as per aroma, fruity notes are kind of overripe/jammy with orange, tangerine, maybe some red apple hints, slightest peppery spiciness, a herbal touch in the finish, the slightest hint of earthiness. Medium sweetness, low to medium bitterness. Slightest sweet edge in the mouth; balanced, dry enough clean finish. Light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation (a quite delicate, small bubbled carbonation); feels pretty soft in the mouth for the low abv and still drinks very well. Overall a very nice, delicate beer; a good speciale belge example.
