Franc Belge (5,2% vol.alc.) is a "Spéciale Belge" type beer, an amber colored ale. With an alcohol level of 5,2 % i, it is a beer with a very good drinkability.

Taste; The lightly coloured malts give the beer a soft malty flavour, with a touch of bitterness at the end derived from the Fuggles hops.

22 February 2019. Bierproeverij CVO Gent, thanks Tim, cheers to Ghent beer posse & the lovely Anke. Pours clear (cloudy with all the sediment) amber with a big, slowly collapsing, foamy, off-white head; irregular lacing. Aroma of bath foam, perfume, shampoo, apple cake, dark honey, butterscotch, brioche, tea leaves, dried banana, vague butter. Taste is light malty sweet, notes of caramel & brioche, quite a bready-yeasty character; medium hoppy bitter core has orange rind, apple peel, grassy & herbal touch. Dry, herbal & grassy hoppy finish, faint caramel, more yeast, a bit metallic. Medium body, slick-fatty texture, fizzy carbonation. It's all about the hoppy bitterness here, that much is clear, but I think the yeast character impairs it a bit.

Draught Medium, dense yellowish head over hazy dark ochre beer. Very malty, (partly toasted), fresh yeast, spicy. Quite bitter for an instant with again a main yeast-induced character. Malts underneath not really supporting. Like the yeast hasn't really attacked the (sweet) worts yet. Medium bodied, bit slick. Aftertaste has some pure hopoil. Weird beer! Old World hops, sweet worts, yeast - all next to each other as if they've no relationship to each other.

Taste: malty start, little sweet, caramel, banana, cookie dough. Aftertaste: bitter, bit grassy, hoppy, little metallic, pretty dry finish.

Draft glass @ Spéciale Belge Taproom. A Spécial Belge made with less caramel malts & more hop. Amber orange, creamy white head. Nose is strangely stale kitchen spices, cobwebs, mothballs, BE, medicinal. Doughy thin taste heavy cobwebs, mothballs, stale, old bread, old kitchen spice, weird,.. Medicinal & herbal malty. Not a big fan of the style, hop here is really weird & it could probably use more caramel malts, interesting on paper but not really my style.
