I have to admit when i think of single hop showcase beers, i dont think of hellertauer. Nice grassy nose, light notes of herbs, maybe some basil?
Good mouthfeel, and carb. The finish is very light on the bitterness with a light grassy, hay like finish. Meh, not very interesting.

A reddish amber ale with a thick frothy lacing light mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with nice resinous floral hops, light pink grapefruit, OK. In mouth, sweet caramel malt with light grassy floral hops, light treacle, a tad too sweet, not bad but... Ok, it’s a Labatt product... Can from LCBO.

From a 16 oz can. Pours a clear gold with an off white. Bready nose. Light flavors of pineapple. Smooth light finish.

473ml can from the Duty Free at Fort Erie, ON. Golden amber with a fading cream head and light carbonation; the Hallertauer hops come through fairly well, giving a spicy nose and taste, which is balanced by a sweet caramel malt body. Better than expected.

Can - Earthy old pine hops. Clear gold with a decent white head. Caramel malts with a vegetal note. Odd tasting and again very little bitterness. Again, surprised at how this isn’t a drain pour, although I wouldn’t drink it unless it was the only thing available.

This ale poured a deep amber colour with a big, foamy, off white head. Scents include hallertauer hops, citrus and grass. First sip wasn’t too bad since the perscentile is only 19. Lightly watery with good hop flavours aswell as malt and cereal. Finish is medium bitter with hop flavours lingering.

Bottle from the Beer Store. Pours a very clear yellow with a small white head. Hint of citrus in the nose with some pine and floral notes but very subdued. Definite hop bitterness in the flavour but also an odd sweetness in the finish. Thin and watery with OK carbonation. It has a little bit of character but not enough to make this a regular choice.

Can: Poured an amber color ale with a medium white foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light dry floral hops is more subtle then I had expected. Taste is also dominated by subtle notes of dry floral hops with a lightly sweet caramel malt base. Body is a bit light with good carbonation. Malt base is too sweet and hops profile lacks in character.

After reviewing their Cascade Hop version, decided to do this one the see the difference between them. Looks pretty close to the same (amber, clean, warm cap). The hop nose is there, but this is more on the warmer side, than grapefruit and pine. Warmer, meaning sweet and malty with alcohol, kind of malt liquor, but not one. Seems like the Hallertau hops release more the malts and alcohol. Nice to compare both, but not a beer I would drink a lot of. The Cascade version is a little punchier.

Canette 473ml.
