Appearance: dark brown close to black in color with a bar pour's kind of slim off white foamy head which dissipated fairly quick into oblivion and barely had any lace
Aroma: mostly the chili peppers up front - fairly spicy with a light cherry sweet sweetness; good smoky tones with some dark chocolate sweet to bitter notes
Flavor: pretty much copies the aromas to a sweet to spicy to smoky sweet to bittersweet quality; finishes smoky with some chili peppers and cherries
Texture: medium bodied; this is a sipper; light smoothness with substantial dryness; the chili peppers seem a bit tamer in their heat to pummel the tongue; good carb level
Overall: so much going on with this beer, I liked it for the most part but realized this would be a great beer to end a night of beer drinking with.

8 month old can A: Poured hard to only a tiny tan head. Looks like coffee froth. Very dark brown almost black color in pint glass. S: Light overall with cocoa powder and coffee T: Light chocolate sweetness and dark bread quickly overtaken by not too hot but prominent hot pepper and light smoke and roast. M: Thick and full bodied with subtle carbonation and sticky finish. O: Well done and good overall with great complexity of flavors, but eventually the pepper begins to detract from the other aspects.

Can. Pours a pitch brown color and mahogany highlights with a small dark beige head and poor retention. No lacing. Faint coffee aroma. Dark cocoa and coffee flavor with a lasting spicy pepper finish. Dried cherry and plum tastes are imagination only. Medium-heavy body. 7.2% ABV is fairly well hidden. Not bad. An interesting change.

Green chiles, cherry, plum, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Dark brown with small tan head. Mildly sweet cherry, pepper, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Good body and balance - mild to moderate burn in the finish. Nice.

Sampled from a can this beer poured a black color with a large soapy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dry and musty with toasty malt, coffee, hot pepper, sawdust and floral hops. The flavor was hot pepper, cocoa, vanilla, coffee, toasty malts, smoke and chipotle pepper. Long hot pepper finish. Medium bodied and smooth.

Super deep dark brown coloured body with a slightly opaque deep glow with a slightly lighter brown head on top, only a single centimetre tall at its largest, that fades very quickly to just about nothing. Aroma of rich roasted malt with a dose of licorice, aniseed, tobacco, meat and a noticeable amount of black peppercorn, from one of the stronger essence countries/regions like C/Kampot in Cambodia. Medium-bodied; Deep black pepper flavour at first that shows a lot of pungency and 'heat' with a dose of roasted malt, some lighter sugar and sweet notes from raisins and caramelised sugars with a hint of the earthy and nutty malts, but the pepper heat hits at the very end as well - very nice. Aftertaste shows the grain, raisin and sweetness, but the malt coupled with the pepper stands out far and beyond anything else. Overall, a very nice porter and well worth trying, especially if you like the spicier beers or want something to complement a food with a ton of heat! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 04-December-2018 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington on 06-April-2019.

Very nice pepper porter from Left Hand, full of cocoa, caramel, dark cherry, plum, and hints of roast and anise on the finish, followed by an intensifying heat on the fade. The spiciness is cumulative; mellow at first, yet clingy and prominent once the pint is half-empty, tickling the palate with a persistent warmth. Mild milk chocolate lingers with the pepper, yet never grows overly sweet. Just a damn fine pint.
