Doppelbock by this Spanish craft brewery, tasted from tap at Dok Brewing Company in Ghent. Medium thick, bit irregular, pale greyish beige, mousy cobweb-lacing head, lightly hazy deep bronze robe, almost dark brown, with coppery tinge. Aroma of sweet plum wine, caramel candy, hazelnut, some wet hay, dried figs, red apples, acorn shells, lightly toasted brown bread, dry earth, tea. Sweetish onset but quite restrained with notes of fig, red apple and dried plum, minerally and quite stinging carbonation (too much for the intended style, in fact), smooth-edged caramelly malt body with a softly bittering toasty accent to it, earthy and spicy hop bitterness in the end (again - too much for the intended style) with some warming, bit rum-like alcohol and lingering malt bittersweetness. Decent and correct as usual with this brewery, clean and malt-forward as it ought to be though still a bit overly hopped for style, and perhaps a tad too toasty as well to be convincingly ‘German’ in its intentions.

30 November 2018. Billie's Craft Beer Fest. Cheers to Anke, tderoeck & 77ships! Hazy dark amber/brown with a lasting, thin, off-white head; some lacing. Aroma of ripe banana & plum, dough, peach, pear syrup, sweetbread, caramel. Taste is medium malty sweet, caramelly & dough-like, some plum & red grape; builds up a rather firm medium herbal bitterness, hint of green tea, a bit grassy; faintly lemony sour in the back. Dyrish, herbal hoppy finish, lingering dough, caramel, even a tad too bitter for my liking. Subtle warming liqueur alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Decent, expected a bit more.
