Butte Creek Organic Porter pours into the pint dark brown, almost black in color. Porters are honest ales, they taste like they look - Rich, dark and chocolaty, with not so subtle undertones of caramel and coffee. But unlike its dour dusky look, it flows through the mouth with a velvety smooth texture, and finishes with just a hint of hop crispness derived from traditional aroma hops. This is a powerful porter that can be enjoyed with bangers and mash, a hearty meal or even paired with a fine desert. 6.0% ABV, OG 14.5, IBU 18.

Backlog February 2009. Amber body under a fading, small beige head. Aroma of malt and chocolate. Taste is mild and quite light with malt, chocolate and some coffee. Medium to light bodied with short aftertaste. A rather light version of a porter this.

Bottle. Coffee, chocolate barley malt and hay aroma. Very dark brown with moderate tan head. Moderately sweet coffee, chocolate malt, and very light bitter hay flavor. Nice body. Kind of light but pleasant.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours very murky dark reddish brown color with a huge 2-3 finger fluffy tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Good soapy lacing on the glass, with a ton of streaming carbonation. This foamed up instantly on the pour, so its probably infected. Aromas of caramel, molasses, roasted malt, raisin, chocolate, prune, toast, toffee, apple skin, grass, and herbal spiciness. Some pretty unpleasant aromas as expected after that foamy pour. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toast, apple, biscuit, toffee, and herbal spiciness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a bit. Unlike the aromas, the flavors are actually quite robust with good balance; no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a solid porter, even for being infected. Some solid flavors that are fairly robust; very smooth to drink. I had no problem finishing it at all.

Bottle, 12oz. It pours a ruby, brownish body with a beige head. Roasted nose with a touch of chocolate and coffee. Some dried fruits in the background. The flavor is much the same, with malty flavors like chocolate and coffee doing most of the job, but there’s also some hoppy bitterness. Most of the bitterness is of the coffee like kind though. Medium body. Lasting coffee-bitter finish. It’s a quite decent beer, but it gets a bit boring. (090213)

12oz Bottle pours out almost black with a little red topped with a tan head. A very nice aroma of wood roast malt. Tast of roast malt some bitter sweet chocolate. A light coffee tast also. Pretty good for a Organic brew.

12oz bottle pours dark brown with weak tan head. The aroma is mild with roasty malts, stale dry cardboard organic grains and burnt malts. The taste, well its another organic brew. Most of these have an off stale nearly rotting cardboard flavor and this one is no exception. I get brief roasted malts before bold brash uncaring malt staleness swamps the senses. I can’t taste much else save faint burnt notes that do nothing to help matters. Not good.

Bottle courtesy of CBA: Poured a light clear black color porter with a small foamy head with a small foamy head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with some subtle bitter notes. Taste is also dominated by some sweet malt with some lactose-like sweetness with a weak bitter ending. Body is too thin for the style with some average carbonation.
