Lactose sugar and oats give this full bodied dark and additional creamy body and smoothness. The sweetness had hints of chocolate flavor that lasts from start to finish.

Tap. Pours clear mahogany, small tan head, some lacing. Aroma is deep roasty, hints of cocoa and coffee. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, mocha, cocoa, lactose sugar, hints of burned malt. Medium body, lingering coffee finish.

Bottle. Chocolate malt and straw aroma. Black with minimal head. Sweet milk chocolate malt and moderately bitter herbal hay/ash flavor. Nice body. Solid.

Bottle: Pours nearly black with a minimal tan head. Lactic, cocoa powder, a slight cardboard scent. Taste is milk chocolate, malt, sugared black coffee. Pretty good....a little on the thin side in the feel, though.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of lactose with backing chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor starts strong with lactose but has more roast and chocolate in the finish.

Imperial pint Draft at Moosejaw. Opaque black with a steady thin beige-brown head. Sweet malty milkshake aroma. Medium bodied, done quite nicely and true to style. Smooth chocolate tones, some lactose creaminess. Straightforward.
