I had this beer a few months ago, making it something like seven years old. I figured a 16% abv Belgian ale would hold up well though. Turns out... maybe not in this case. It pours a hazy burnt orange color. The aroma is malty and boozy. It tastes very sweet. It's boozy and there's maybe a little caramel in there along with some fruity character, but mostly it's just super sweet. Too much so. This is underwhelming.

Crystal clear copper and peach coloured body with a nice light amber and bronze tint along with a faint sliver of an off-white head. Aroma of alcohol, honey, pine sap, mellow sugars, peaches and apricots and a touch of very light hops - strong and sweet smelling, for sure. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich and boozey flavour with some honey, grain, bitter malt, earth, medicinal notes and way more alcohol on the finish, without much complexity, depth or balance. Aftertaste is incredibly strong and bitter, almost purely from the alcohol, but also the deep malts. Complexity is not there, and aside from the alcohol warmth and the pungency in the flavour, it’s about all this beer is good for [anymore or perhaps ever?]. Overall, a decent beer to try, and worth saving around for a while due to the high alcohol content, but not because it was tying up valuable real estate for something else. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Binny’s Beverage Depot (South Loop) in Chicago, Illinois on 21-August-2013 for US$7,99 sampled at home in Washington on 14-May-2017, for a great deal for ABV on a beer and format, but not due to the actual score, purchased before one of my daughters was born and when the oldest was not even one year old yet - she’s now almost five. 2013 Bottle (16th Anniversary) // Purchased: 21-August-2013 // Sampled: 14-May-2017

Bottle @ Armin’s apartment. Thanks Armin! Pours a bit hazy golden orange appearance with a pretty decent off white head. Light cardboard, big cane sugar, peachy, lemon aroma. Tangy, cloying, white sugar, banana, lemon, apple flavor. Booze is covered actually pretty well but it is quite sweet. Scroll past.

Dirty, yellow-amber with a thin, white head. Scent of barn dust, tangy caramel.... Flavour is a little boozy, caramel, yeast, apples and bread. Very complex.....very big. Alcohol is noticeable, but really sedate for the ABV...

22oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark gold with minimal head. Aroma of baking spices with some banana and clove. Taste is medium sweet. Banana and clove with a little green apple and baking spice. Medium bodied with a thin yet slightly sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long boozy warm finish. Overall, great.
