Made popular by the craft brewers of America, Imperial IPA is a revived style of beer that pushes the boundaries of well-hopped, high-strength ales. Imperial IPA's are traditionally brewed with a high proportion of crystal malt. Our unique take sees UK hop varieties Target, Goldings and Fuggles added to the copper at multiple points during the brew, delivering a piney, earthy aroma and a distinct edge of bitterness. For extra intrigue, we've also added a hint of black pepper - giving the beer a unique spicy twist. Bottle conditioned.

Cloudy amber colour. Sweet malt, candied orange from the hops, and some British yeast earthy character; bold bitterness, but balanced; light incense; besides the yeast character, this is an American Barley Wine.
It takes some effort to re-register the parameters to non-American beers, but this is pretty good.

500ml on Alex's porch. Appearance: hazy copper with a beige head. Aroma: sugared fruits, nice malty character. Taste: along the same lines, nice malty character, noticeable hoppy bitterness. Interesting fruity hops in aftertaste. Overall: good barleywine.

500mL bottle, pours a beautiful dark amber mahogany with a small beige head. Nose is full of resinous hops, dark dried fruits, and heaps of caramel malt—smells more like a hoppy, American barley wine but with English hops. Flavour confirms this, with treacle toffee, caramel malt, and bitter resinous hops. Some nice dark fruits in there too. Really love the maltiness here. If you think of it as a hoppy barley wine, you may appreciate it more. Excellent.

Bottle, 10.5%. Vinous and citric aroma with some dried sweet fruits. Cloudy red/chestnut colour. Small tan head. The flavour starts off quite sweet and very fruity. Caramelly and quite bitter. Powerful but very well-balanced. A little warming alcohol, but not boozy or bitter from the alcohol. Spicy hop notes, quite surprising considering all the other massive flavours. Great.

Bottle. Pours cloudy darkish ruby with airy tan head. Clear aroma of malt and fruit, with touches of chocolate and notes of hops and malt. Bitter flavour of hops and alcohol, with sweet notes of malt, fruit and yeast and touches of flowers. Sweetish, estery afteraste with bitter hints of alcohol. A nice one. Reminds me of a SN 1698, layered for 20 years past the BBD.

Bottle. Nose is resin, toffee, malt very limited though. Taste is malty, earthy, resin, pine, hints of soft mango, very earthy, herbal hop notes, peppery, sticky, more malt, fruity, yeast, brown sugar, barley sugars, caramel, strong marmalade with a bitter orange pith. Absolutely delicious malt bomb, decidedly British, and calls to mind the high strength mild with more hops.
