Cask @ JDW Elgin 171212
Reddish copper, clear, thin, dense white head, some lacing
Aroma of caramel malts, soft toffee, some yeast
Taste of caramel malts, light toasted malt, touch of toffee, quite yeasty, touch of dark fruits, odd herbal notes, cereals
Palate - medium body, fairly oily. Finish as main flavour, lingering bitter and bit astringent
Overall - Ordinary bitter with some odd flavours from the yeast. Wasn’t that great.

Half pint, hand pulled from cask at JDWs Angel. Tiny creamy, tan-coloured head. Deep dark amber body. Fine aroma of malts and resinous hops. Malt-fruity taste added by seasonal spices like ginger. Bittersweet ending. Likable (London, 25.11.2012).

Re-rate at Foxton restaurant in Berwick upon Tweed. Loads of dried fruits and nuts going on this time. Light treacle too. Nice winter ale. Previous rating on 30/12/11 = 6+3+5+3+11=2.8 On cask at Bert’s Bar. Pours a dark amber with a decent head. The nose has biscuits and cream. The taste has more biscuits with just a hint of ginger on the end.The palate has a medium structure and the texture in the middle section is medium weighted and there’s a dry finish. Overall, decent enough but won’t have another.

(Draught at Black Door, 20111214) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had treacle and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, roasted malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and mildly bitter. Too sweet and a bit harsh brew.

Cask, handpump at The Rock of Gibraltar, Enslow, Oxon, 12th December 2011 Pours dark chestnut, this is a touch spicy, its malty, some soft nuttiness, fruity. Whilst not totally my thing and I have to say it’s better than I expected but the pumpclip is annoying. A6 A3 T7 P3 Ov12 3.1
