Cask at the Greyhound (JDW), Maidenhead. AMber with a thin white head; orangey citrus aroma; a fresh, orangely citrus taste at first, with some vanilla, and a dry oily body; then a delicious dry, toasty, finish. Intersting with lots of complex flavours.

Half-pint, hand-pulled in the Telford Town Centre Wetherspoon’s on 16th Oct 2013. Golden amber body with a good head: looked fine. Nice aroma too: caramel and malty with a mild citrus hint. The taste is also malt led, the hops below the surface throughout. Biscuity and semi-sweet, I liked it. Medium body depth and strength, hid the alcohol nicely.

Cask at the Beehive, JDW - purveyor of Innis & Gunn, among others. Pours clear gold with a white, foamy head. The aroma holds sugary bread and light caramel. Medium sweet flavor with lots of bread, some vanilla and toffee, ripe fruits. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with touches of toffee and alcohol. So so.

Cask at the beehive brixton. Golden yellow pour with a lasting thin white head. Aroma is sweet toasted bread. Some diacetyl? Flavour is sweet oak, butterscotch. Medium full body. A touch slick. Classic innis and gun flavour profile. Didn’t get much in the way of hops at all. .

Cask handpull at Samuel Peto Spoons Folkestone. Ok I promise I come to this beer with an open mind and won’t hate it just cos I know I will. Clear gold lasting white head. Well it’s a good looking beer. Oaky aroma. I mean it’s almost undrinkable. Thin in the body. The oak floats around with nothing to hang on to. There is some ok hop on the finish. Some rose fruit in the mouth. It kind of wears you down. Not enough malt to support all the complex flavours. I just about finished a half and only because it’s in decent nick. Would never drink this again.

Cask at JDW Charlie Hall; light amber pour with frothy off white head, slight citrus aroma, some citrus in the taste but mostly caramel and a toasted malt finish. My quest for a Scottish Ale continues........
