Lucid, a kolsch ale, is New Hollands latest brand launch. It is a beer that takes its spot in the year-round line up in place of recently retired brands, Paleooza and Full Circle. Lucid’s refreshing quality is sure to make it a favorite session beer for many different beer drinkers. It has a soft and balanced malt character with a light hop profile and a crisp finish. We recommend it with salads, fish, grilled vegetables, and just about anything served on a patio.

Bottle. Crisp and sweet. Light on the palate. Nicely carbonated. All in all, a refreshing summer beer. The pour was mostly clear, dark yellow with a diminishing white head. Light aroma of peach and pear with hints of grass and honey. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Light acidity. Light to medium body with a watery texture and lively carbonation. Fewer hop and malt notes than in other Kolsches, but it was an easy drinking beer.

Bottle labelled Full Circle, but as a Kolsch with a label just like this one. Crystal clear light golden body with a small off-white head that lingers. Light floral hop aroma with some grainy corn. Light corn flavor, some floral hops, fairly grainy. Light body with mdoerately high carbonation.

12 oz. bottle. Nice pale kölsch color, a little deeper gold in the thicker part of the glass, with a bit of lightly filtered haze. A bit of hop detectable from two feet away as I type this. Lightly toasted malt smell. Taste is nice, to my nose. Malty yet slightly dry, a touch of lemon, and an upfront German hop nose. Yeah, the total package may seem like an only average beer experience, but this advertises itself as a nice German-style session beer, and in that I think it’s pretty successful. Purchased at the Downers Grove Trader Joe’s.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a yellow-gold color with a small soapy white head. The aroma was light tangy malts. The flavor was light tangy malts with a hint of citrus and a light yeasty undertone. The finish was a bit tart and tangy.

Bottle. Light sweet malt aroma. Hazy pale yellow-orange color with small head. Light sweet malt and light grapefruit hops finish. Almost like a light lage.

Crystal clear golden coloured body with a dense and long-lasting white head. Aroma of fresh dry malt, doughy yeast, sourdough bread and a tiny bit of light hops. Light-bodied; Nice fresh malt flavour with a subtle sweetness and a light crisp, airy effervescence. Aftertaste shows a bit more sugar, some light hops and mostly very light malt. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good kolsch, a GREAT beer for a very hot summer day and light meals. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 13-December-2007.

bottle - Pours yellow and slightly hazy with a thin head. The aroma is mild malt with a trace of citrus. The pale malt flavor is joined by some crisp bitterness, mostly in the finish. It’s light and a little watery.

Pour is a golden with a huge white head. Aroma is bready but very yeasty and some citrus. Flavor is very grainy and bready. Probably spot on for the style but not a very good style to begin with.

This brew is a clear golden color with a thin and steadily diminishing white head. Spotty lacing. Lager-ish aroma of grassy hops and musty malt. Light-bodied with grainy malt, light floral hops and a touch of citrus fruit. The finish is clean and malty with mild bitterness. Not much of an aftertaste other than a bit of grassy hops. Overall this is a fairly bland and below average Kölsch.
