Effervescent, this summer brew is fashioned after the Kolsch biers that originated in Cologne, Germany, in the 1800s. Hallertau, Magnum, and Mount Hood hops combine for an especially clean, crisp finish.

Pours a crystal clear deep straw color with a decent sized white head that quickly recedes. Aromas of bready pilsner with hints of sugary and fruity sweetness and a very faint floral hop scent. The flavor is mildly sweet with a honey sugary fruitiness that mixes fairly well with the doughy bready malts. Crisp spicy hop bitterness and a touch of carbonic bite balance this fairly well. Light to medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation. Nice summer brew.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear golden amber with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of grain, raw malt, mild grass, tart citrus. The taste is raw grain, caramel, citrus and grassy hops, a bit of apple. Thin-medium bodied. Not great.

Overall Impression: Actually enjoy this one, it’s not a great beer, but for a summer style Kolsch (which was their goal!) it works pretty well, higher up for it’s style then many of the other Shiner beers.

Super clear coloured golden body with a decent white head that fades too fast. Aroma of water, metal, blood and a tiny bit of lemons followed by a very light maltiness. Medium-bodied; Very funky cardboard and off flavours up front with some alcohol, grapes, sour, bitterness and metal flavours all coming in big time. Aftertaste has more horrible tastes - this one tastes like it spent 11 months in a barrel with loose change. Overall, a horrible tasting beer and one that didn’t have too much hope from the sight and smell either. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Spirit Shop in Oklahoma City (Norman), Oklahoma on 10-May-2007.

bottle - Pours clear gold with a thin head. The aroma was mild hops. The flavor was light malts with fairly well balanced mild hop tones. Smooth and light bodied, it goes down easy but just doesn’t have enough there to be good.

Bottle - sweet corn/barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with small head and mild effervescense. Lightly sweet malt flavor - very much like a German Koelsch. One of the better American Koelschs I’ve tried.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is macroish sour malts. The flavor is sweetish and yeasty with a vague hint of fruit. The macro tang tends to overpower the other flavors.
