We’ve always celebrated brewing milestones with amped-up versions of our favourite flagship beers. This time Yu Lu gets the treatment, as our delicate loose leaf pale ale is now a fully fledged IPA! Big hitting citrus and fruity hops lead the charge, followed up with Earl Grey tea and bergamot notes echoing the quintessential Yu Lu flavours.

Bottle at home picked up from Clapton craft. A light hazed deep orange golden coloured pour with a steady white cap. Aroma is nice lime citrus, peachy, white grape, nice floral pollen notes. Flavour is composed of semi sweet solid base malts, sharp zesty citrus, tea leaves, orange oil. Nice jasmine florals lingering on the backend of the flavour / aroma.. Palate is semi sweet, slight resinous, moderate carbonation. Really pleasant drinking stuff. Has a good hoppy punch as well.

Bottle from the Grumpy Goat, Reading. Golden amber with a thin white head. Tastes of fresh orange juice, marmalade, black tea, flowers, spice, and toast. Good full mouthfeel compared to many pale ales - it actually feels like some malt has gone in. It's tasty and satisfying, giving that let-the-tension-out "aaaahhhh" feeling you normally associate with that first really good pint of bitter or mild at the end of a hard week at work or a tough hike. In my previous rating (of Mad Squirrel Roadkill) I said I was bored of the whole hoppy pale ale thing. As it turns out, it just needed the magic of Siren and a sprinkle of Earl Grey to make me enjoy this style again - this is a lovely beer.

Keg at Lyric. It pours hazy bright yellow - gold with a thick white head. The aroma is fresh, bright, fragrant, oily orange, tangerine, bergamot, sherbet, green, grassy and pine needles. The taste is firmly bitter, drying, green, pine dust, lemon sherbet, tannin, earthy, wood, black tea, floral, loada of oily orange citrus, bergamot and apricot with a firmly dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice bright earl grey tea vibes. Orangey. Works rather well IMO.

Keg at the Kings Arms - Hackney. Pours lightly hazed gold with a tight, creamy off-white head. Floral hops in the nose, citrus peel, orange zest. Light to medium sweet flavour with bready pale malts, more flowery hops, pine, mild rindy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly resinous and warming to finish, further floral character, zesty citrus. Not bad.
