This is how a beer from our backyard in Orange County should taste: refreshing, crisp and original. Orchard Wit is a tart wheat beer, brewed with orange zest and coriander, and aged in an oak foeder for several months. It’s designed to showcase the culture of our farmhouse-style brewery through maturation in oak and fermentation with several yeast strains, namely Bavarian Wit, Belgian Wit and French Saison yeast, and our house souring culture. It’s a combination that’s fresh with subtle complexity, balancing the classic, spiced and fruity characteristics of a Belgian-style wit with the soft - and wild - touch from oak.

375ml bottle @ Chez Sophie. Pours clear gold, small quickly dissipating white head no lacing. Aroma is very light banana, wild flora. Super tart, crisp, tangy character, no real discernible wit notes, no coriander or orange zest, high lactic. Its a sharp zippy beer with fizzy sherbet on the close but i do feel dissapointed by the lack of any witbier elements. Perhaps these will have emerged more if less cold but in this January weather thats not going to happen.

Keg at CASC, Aberdeen. It pours lightly hazy golden - orange with a quickly dissipating white head. The aroma is sweet - sour, musty, gooseberry fool, wet hay, white graoe, clove rock and green banana. The taste is crisp, dry, puckering tartness, some citric acidity, greengage, sour melon, grape must, gooseberry, hay, sour candy and sherbet with a dry, tart finiah. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. There is quite a disconnect between aroma (more like a wit) and taste (a sour). Pleasant stuff anyhow.

Keg at the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey, 28/11/18. Hazed golden with a decent off white cap. Nose is pissy fruits, apple core, funk, damp hay, green berry must. Taste comprises sharp lemon, wood must, light barnyard ripple, funk, dusty fruits, grass, light herb, vinous notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced acidic finale. Decent.
