WILD FRUITED SAISON

Sail into summer with this tart, blueberry saison. Aquamarine Dream is a saison brewed with blueberry, blackberry, lime peel, & salt. The addition of the berries gives this fruit saison a beautiful hazy reddish-purple appearance. Smells of blueberries & blackberries come together to create boysenberry notes with a touch of salt.

Aquamarine Dream

Beneath the tranquil surface
Be monsters
Of unbelievable size

Demons of the deep
They stir the surface
From time to time

Ripples of forgotten troubles rising

For when forth come the Kraken
Neither the laws of men
Nor Gods apply

Saison with blueberries added

Cheers & Mahalo plenty!

7.3% ABV. Aromas are a mix of fruited vinegar and caramel malt. Once it warms up a couple of degrees flavors are somewhat similar to nose, mellowing out a bit, moderate tart with a little sweet in the back. Add in a bit of funk. Not bad but nothing special either.

Can from Trader Joe's Pours a murky pinkish purple with a full finger of off-white head that lingers. Tart vinegar aromas with oak and possibly lime aromas on the nose. Some blueberry and blackberry skin notes on the palate with light salt and more vinegar and oak. Drying finish with good carbonation.

16 oz can. Pours a lightly hazy red amber with a white head. Sour/funky aroma, berry and lime. Flavor of tart, funky lime, blueberry, blackberry, raspberry. The funk leads the beer and works nicely with the fruit flavors, and nothing is overbearing. Quite well done.

On tap at the A2 location. Pours a hazy deep purple with a slight blue hue and an off white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of blueberry with light blackberry, some lime and a creamy sweet grain backbone. Flavor has creamy sweet grains and blackberry with a lime bite and a bit of earthy blueberry underlying.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/4/2017. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy reddish orange color with a 1-2 finger dense light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lightly tart/tangy blackberries, blueberries, fruit skin, lemon, lime, citrus peel, pear, red apple, melon, white wine, peppercorn, salt, hay, straw, herbal, grass, oak, wheat, cracker, and toasted bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, berries, lime peel, oak, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart/tangy blackberries, blueberries, fruit skin, lemon, lime, citrus peel, pear, red apple, melon, white wine, peppercorn, salt, hay, straw, herbal, grass, oak, wheat, cracker, and toasted bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast/oak spiciness and light fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy blackberries, blueberries, fruit skin, lemon, lime, citrus peel, pear, red apple, melon, white wine, peppercorn, salt, hay, straw, herbal, grass, oak, wheat, cracker, toasted bread, leathery/musty funk and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, berries, lime peel, oak, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/spiciness balance; and zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from yeast/oak spiciness and berry tang/tartness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, fairly crisp, and lightly acidic/tangy/tannic/saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7.8%. Overall this is an excellent fruited wild saison. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, berries, lime peel, oak, and bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink for the ABV; with the modestly spicy/tart/tannic/drying finish. Classic JP house Brett funk/saison yeast complexity; balanced fruits, malts and nice oak presence. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as usual.
