Exeter is an American Sour Ale fermented with strawberry and lemon.
Exeter is an American Sour Ale fermented with strawberry and lemon. Ruby red in color with an initial head that dissipates quickly, Exeter has a big sour fruit aroma with just a hint of lemon. A mouth puckering tart sour flavor is complemented by a growing sweet lemon flavor. The finish is very dry.

Fairly hazy ruby and pink coloured body without any head at all, and literally no movement from this - perhaps my fault as this is aged a bit, but if anything (if it was bottle conditioned), there should be even more carbonation. Aroma of super soured and tart strawberry, light citrus and funky lacto notes with a lot of complexity and soured yeast components in a good way. Light-bodied; Sharp lactose and light strawberry sweetnesses come through at first with a minor dose of lemons and citrus fruits and then showing a bit of a grassy and herbal, more earthy characteristic from the malt and soft sugars on the end. Aftertaste shows the fruits and yeast flavours with a little alcohol and soft tart and sweet flavours throughout that are seemingly all-fruit based. Overall, a nice and balanced beer that shows some good sour flavours but not overly done or to tart. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from Siciliano's in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 13-June-2017 for US$2,39 sampled about 2.25 years later on 18-October-2019 at home in Washington.

Bottle. Cloudy deep pink-red body, thin off-white head. Sweet nose with berries, fruit punch, and light biscuit. Sharp, tart body, dark berries, lemon/lime, and a weird zesty spiciness; light biscuity malts, suds, and cobwebs also feature. Sour dominates but there is just the right amount of sweetness. Oh yeah.

Sample at Woodlands Tavern during the "Short's On The Road" event on 11/07/2017. The beer is a hazy reddish-orange color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to a wispy film. Spotty lace. Aroma of berry, wheat and malt. Light to medium body with flavors of tart lemon, strawberry, yeast and doughy malt. The finish is mildly tart with a lemony aftertaste. Above average overall.

tap, rated in June 2017 - Pours a reddish color. There's a funky, fruity aroma. The flavor is tart and sweet with strawberries and citrus. Refreshing. It's wild enough to know it's there but not overwhelmingly sour. Very good.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/3/2017. Pours fairly hazy reddish/pinkish orange color with a 1-2 finger dense light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy strawberry, lemon, lime, pear, green apple, melon, red grape, hay, straw, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, pepper, red wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic/light funky yeast, lemons, strawberries, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy strawberry, lemon, lime, pear, green apple, melon, red grape, hay, straw, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, pepper, red wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tangy strawberry, lemon, lime, pear, green apple, melon, red grape, hay, straw, wheat, cracker, leathery/musty funk, pepper, red wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic/light funky yeast, lemons, strawberries, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/tart/sour/tangy balance. Slightly increasing pucker, but not astringent on sourness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately grainy/acidic/tangy/tannic, and fairly crisp balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.5%. Overall this is an delicious fruited sour ale! All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, lemons, strawberries, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and pretty refreshing to drink with the balanced lactic/tangy/drying finish. Not super complex, but this hits all the right notes for a fruit sour. Would have preferred more Brett complexity, but it has a solid amount. Super huge jammy fruit presence with balanced Lacto character; and nice malts to give some balance to the acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz ca, thanks AdamChandler. Pink / red color, thin head and carbonation. Aroma is mild berries, lactic acid, herbs. The flavor is pretty much the same with a big lactic acid finish. Berry element is pretty decent. Respectable
