Spicted Sour Ale with Brett (Smokestack Series)
Never content with brewing "to style," our brewing team's approach to Funkier Pumpkin is far from your standard take on pumpkin spice beers. Choosing to focus on the complexity that brettanomyces can bring to a beer, Funkier Pumpkin offers subtle pumpkin flavor accented by traditional spicing in a beer that showcases the hallmark earthy/forest floor notes of our house wild yeast strain.

A golden ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light pumpkin spices, light cloves, pleasant and smooth. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light Brett, light pumpkin spices, light cloves, pleasant and smooth. Surprisingly good for a close to 10 year old beer.

Bottle from the lcbo. Hazy orange pour, with a medium beige head. Lots of pumpkin spice, some light fruit, hints of vinegar, and yeast. Solid mouth feel, standard carb. Light finish, low bitterness, light tartness. Semi sweet, tart and a tad funky. Lots of spice and gourd fruitiness. Not awful, not great either. Sour pumpkin beers are not my bag.

Bottled@Rådhuskällaren. Orangeish amber colour with a mediumsized creamy head. Aroma is pumpkin (more spices, than real pumpkin though) with some sweet malts and mild herbs. Flavour is spicy, some sweet malts, herbs and a bit of funk to it as well.

Bottle shared by Paul, thanks for the opportunity. Hazy light gold in color thin off white head. Pumpkin spice aroma and flavor with a bready maltiness and a faint earthy funk. Not horrible but still a pumpkin beer.

Bottle at home. One year old. Has a clear dark amber colour with a big beige head that fades fast. Spicy aroma of pumpkin seeds, flowers, cinnamon buns, vinegar, ginger and cloves. The flavour is also quite spicy with the addition of more apple cider vinegar and hay. A little spice burn in the end. Has a slick and sparkly mouth feel, medium body and light bitterness. Interesting with lots of spices. Would have been nice with food.

Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a nice large–off white foamy head with OK retention and not much lacing. Aroma of tart notes with light funky ester with some cinnamon and cloves notes also noticeable. Taste is an interesting mix with subtle notes of cinnamon, cloves and pumpkin with some dry Brett notes with some tart notes and a dry finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Intertying mix of flavours but spice notes could have been even more pronounced.

Best before 02/25/2018. Pours a golden-amber colour with a fizzy off-white head, average retention and some soapy lace. Gets eventually hazy and the heads last longer. At first pour, the funkiness from the Brett really stood out, but then the spices of the pumpkin brew come out more. The Brett really stands out in the taste with the sourness at first. The spices mildly shows in the finish. Lightly lingers. Feels almost like an infected pumpkin ale, and I like pumpkin ales - so should be left alone. Enough with the Brett.
