In Germany, Kobes(brewery waiters) have been serving Kolsch since 1906. But they’re notoriously tough to pin down, always rushing past with grilled potatoes, cabbage, sausages, sandwiches, and big round trays of their namesake brew. And while you might need to speak Germanto order a Kolsch in Koln, you don’t need any such skill to enjoy one here. Ours is light and refreshing with subtle "biscuity" notes and a clean refreshing finish. It’s also considerably less difficult to order. And thats something we can all drink too. Prost!

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 1/4/2015. Pours fairly crystal clear deep golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and light-moderate fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, cracker, biscuit, light honey, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5.1%. Overall this is a damn nice kolsch style. All around great robustness and balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. A- Slightly sweet, cereal, biscuits. A- Golden orange color, clear liquid, no head. T- Slightly sweet, watery, subtle honey. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, crisp finish. O- Pretty boring and not much going on at all. I had this less than 12 hours ago and struggle to remember anything at all about it, it was so unexciting.

I’m glad to be finding more notes of beers I’ve had over the years. Here’s one from late Summer of 2012.
I poured this into a stange.
The appearance was a nice super light colored yellow with a quick dissipating less than a one finger white foamy head that left very little lacing.
The smell was kinda floral and citrusy.
The taste was kinda sweet on the lighter side and ends up leading into a dry sweet aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, it sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionable quality to it. The carbonation is a bit harsher than most Kolsches I’ve had, but still good for the most part.
Overall, decent Kolsch styled beer. Its nothing over the top, but worthy of having if you see it.

Part of their 2013 spring/summer Variety 12-pack purchased in Syracuse, NY. Pours a clean pale golden colour with a big frothy white head that lasts a while and gives out sticky-dirty lacing. Beautiful grainy cereal malt aromas found in brown bread dough. Malty taste as well, but not as much grainy, but mild biscuit flavour. Wet mouthfeel, but slightly creamy and medium-bodied. Not a bad rendition of the style, but the mouth does not hit the spot as much as the smell.

Dull golden, fast head. Bready malts and very mild spicy hopping. Flavor tended sweetish and biscuity, almost toffeeish with the same vinous character in some bocks. This detracted from what should have been clean crisp and drinkable, despite the label’s claims. Worth noting that the second half of the bottle was a respectable partner to giant burrito.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a shaker. Pours a clear pale yellow that disappears almost immediately. Not much by way of aroma. Some light grain and malt. Taste is very lightly bitter and very lightly sweet. Some bready malt and a little flowery hop. Light bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and not much of a finish. Overall, it’s ok. Very light. Would be a good lawnmower beer...maybe.

Golden with a white head. Aroma of faint malt and earthy hops, and a bit of frutiy sweetness. Medium bodied. Flavor is much the same with a decent medium dry finish to aid the crispness of it. Easy drinking but nothing special.

Pour is a bright gold with a large white head. Aroma is of sweet malts and a little sour apple. Flavor is a very light dry malt but overall very watery. Not real good.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 6/21/11

Aroma: The nose is fairly grassy, a little bit of honey, and some bread/grain notes
Appearance: Pours a clear golden color with a thick and foamy bright white head and solid lacing
Flavor: Tastes a touch off, it has grass and yeast flavors with a slightly herbal/medicinal finish
Palate: The body is fairly light, it actually drinks fairly nice, clean and crisp with a fairly long finish
Overall Impression: Randomly, my 2nd rating of the night is also my 2nd Kolsch of the night. That’s not something that happens too often. Anyway, this was an alright Kolsch, but nothing too spectacular. It does go down easy though, and ended up being better then I was originally expecting.

Pour is fairly clear pale yellow. Smell is sweett and a little alarming, like many aged high gravity pale lager beers. Yes, taste is a little old like. Comes across a little like medicine. Not really too refeshing nor crisp. Can,t even hold a candle to mission blond or berkshire gold. Does not hide its alky too well. Decent amount iof co2. Rude old beer finish that again comes across somewhat like a high gravity beer. Not impressed, perhaps this was an old bottle. Date code 0055-B-10B(8)29. Just a little better than new hollond kolsch.
