In Germany, Kobes(brewery waiters) have been serving Kolsch since 1906. But they’re notoriously tough to pin down, always rushing past with grilled potatoes, cabbage, sausages, sandwiches, and big round trays of their namesake brew. And while you might need to speak Germanto order a Kolsch in Koln, you don’t need any such skill to enjoy one here. Ours is light and refreshing with subtle "biscuity" notes and a clean refreshing finish. It’s also considerably less difficult to order. And thats something we can all drink too. Prost!

12 ounce bottle from a sampler purchased at a Wegman’s. Pours a clear golden with a thin white head that quickly fades. Aroma of sweet caramel and a very faint bit of toasted malts. The taste is sweet malts, grain, faintly grassy and nutty finish. Medium bodied. Meh.

Pours gold with slight haze and thin white head. The aroma is mild with some graininess, some fruity esters and faint dirty sweaty socks. The taste is sweet, slightly grainy and then stale dark fruity esters.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a small white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is corn malt and citrus. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet malt with honey and caramel and a nice lingering finish. Easy to drink a good Kolsch from Genesee.

Bottle: Poured a light blonde color Kolsch with an average foamy head with OK retention and not much lacing. Aroma of lightly sweet malt with clean cereal notes. Taste is not the most complex with some satisfying notes of cereal and lightly sweet background. Body is about average with good carbonation. Refreshing and drinkable though not as complex as it good be.

12oz bottle. Orange-tan color, thin white head. Doughy orange aroma, a little dirty. Captures a little of the style up front, but then fades into a sugary, dirty mess of a finish. Hmm, The more you drink it the more you realize how badly it misses. Sugary finish, not enough hoppy crispness to even it out. Butter and other off flavors shine. In no way thirst quenching, clean, or crisp. Sub-par stuff.

Thanks to Rustyham for this one. Taken to Grownfool’s inaugural tasting. Pours clear medium yellow with a minimal white head. Light aroma of honey. The flavor was almost non-existent to me, lightly sweet. Lacked the hop profile that should be in a Kolsch. Almost as thin as water, but nothing bad, moreover it just lacked enough good things.
