Imperial Red IPA Aged in Bourbon Barrels

What do you get when a big, bold imperial red IPA meets an oak bourbon barrel? A palate stunner that’ll send your senses spinning or, as we like to call it, Dankwood. Rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity. A dank, sticky and slightly sweet sipper, Dankwood is the perfect alchemy of wood and hops.

A generous beer, boozy and warm to drink quietly at home, not a pils that you can drink liters with a barbecue during the summer. Ineresting notes of malt, toffee, vanilla, smooth at the palate, regular hop at the final, 30.11.20, at Epalinges.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is lots of wood with bourbon, malt, caramel, dried fruit, toffee, raisins, a hint of piney hops, and a little alcohol. Flavour is medium sweet and bitter. Body is full. Lots of barrel notes, not that much left of the fruity hops, more of an American Strong Ale. Anyway, quite a nice brew.

(Bottle) Dark copper colour with brief, tan head. Malty, fruity, hoppy nose with notes of dried figs, oak wood, brown sugar, orange peel, dark bread, nuts, chocolate and resin. Malty, hoppy taste with figs, oak wood, brown sugar, orange peel, dark bread, black pepper, nuts, cacao and a generous resiny bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite sweet. Quite complex and powerful. A bit boozy, but really tasty. Very nice.
