We start in the brewhouse with our radically traditional recipe for Anchor Porter, which we've been brewing since 1972. We end up in the cellar, where we add Four Barrel Flash-Chilled Coffee -- developed with Anchor especially for this beer -- during secondary fermentation. The coffee used is brewed hot, then flash-chilled within 10 seconds. This proprietary method ensures the vital aromatics and key acids of a great cup of coffee are captured and preserved. The result is a rich, smooth Porter with a roasty malt backbone, a bold coffee aroma and complex layers of chocolate, nuts and spices.

(Bottle) Black colour with big, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with fresh coffee, dark bread, dark chocolate, raisins, red berries and treacle. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, black bread, burnt sugar, raisins, liquorice, dark chocolate and a balanced coffee bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Really tasty and well made with lots of fresh coffee. Very nice.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours a clear, dark brown with a vague tint of orange. The head is rich, creamy and lacing - cappuchino-style - with excellent retention. Fine, clean and distinct coffee notes penetrates the dense head. Medium body, sweet roast and bitter, dark chocolate again with good and clean coffee. A finishing bitterness mostly from coffee and roasted malt. Delicious. 300120

Bottle from Head of Steam, Birmingham. Brownish black and opaque. A small ring of tan head. Smells weirdly metallic with some blackberry notes. Taste is much improved: fruity Kenyan coffe, some papery notes. Medium to heavy carbonation. Nice.

Bottle. Almost black with a modest but dense light tan head.3+ Aroma of coffee, dark sugars, roast, bread. Lots of coffee with a burst of it clearing to reveal roasted malt, bread and spice underneath. Little sweetness, gentle bitterness. Stronger than but somehow lacks the presence of their normal porter. Pretty good.
