Bottled November 2016. Pours a near-black brown from a bottle, almost non-existent head. Smells like coffee and pumpernickel toast, flavor adds chocolate into the mix. Good beer.

Got in a BIF from ZebraCakez. 22 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled in 12/2014. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 5.2%. Overall this is a damn nice porter style. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

2004 bottle. I knew my faith in this brewery was well-placed. Pours an ultra dark-brown, seemingly opaque though perhas just very dark, as I dont believe it is bottle conditioned/unfiltered. Anyways, dark as night with a solid, burnt tan head. Aroma gives away hints of rotten veggies at first, but as it warms and breathes, this turns in to a very deep underlying chocolate malt mixed with some smoked malt and salty roast. Flavor begins with a dose of salty, bacon like smoke, a big dose of rich dark coffee roast and moves in to a bit more of a sweet chocolate. Hops bitterness is not dominant, but is noticeable and provides good balance on the finish. Hints of licorice on the finish as well. Body begins with too much carbonation, my biggest complaint with this beer, but evens out as it sits. Because of the relatively high carbonation, the body comes across as medium to medium-full. The flavor, especially the roasty/smoky part is just divine though.
