12 ounce bottle from the brewery, as "Winter Lager." Free six pack of this with 12 other singles. Clear dark brown, thin fizzy tan head, good retention. Aroma of raisin, toffee, caramel. The taste is raisin, cherry, toffee, tinny hops. Thin, low carbonation. Okay.

16 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 11/20/2012. Pours fairly crystal clear deep reddish copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, pear, apple, brown sugar, brown bread, light nuttiness, light roasted malt, floral, light pepper, and herbal earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt and fruity esters with light hops; very pleasant and inviting with solid strength. Taste of caramel, pear, apple, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, light nuttiness, floral, light pepper, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, light fruits, brown bread, light pepper, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance of malt/hop flavors with light fruity esters; with a fair amount of robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with and a lightly creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol i very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice bock. Good balance and robustness of malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Enjoyed from bottle while dining at the Port Hotel in Port Washington, WI while eating a rich holiday dinner. Appearance is a rich dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma of holiday spice and caramel malt. Taste was pretty smooth with rich caramel and spice notes and a subtle smokiness. I thought this was pretty good, nothing too crazy for the style, but done very well.

This beer came in my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a small brown head. The aroma was tangy, sour and malty with a touch of fruity hops. The flavor was tangy cherries, light molasses and a hint of anise. The finish was short tangy anise. Medium body. Ok.

500ml bottle. Deep stained glass red-brown color with a nice thin head. Sweet aroma, maybe some spice. Big malty taste, with the brown sugar taste overwhelming most of the subtle yeast flavors. Easy drinking, not such a bad mouthfeel, yet this one just screams imitation. At times Shwarzy. At times just insipid and sugary. Improves a little as it warms. OK at best.

Poured dark amber with creamy tan head. So far the aroma is very light. As it warmed a bit of roasted and caramel malts surfaced. Nice malty flavor of highly roasted malts, sweet caramel malts, a hint of toffee and black patent malts. A little too much malt to glean any hoppiness from the brew.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a small, fading head. The aroma is light and mostly of malts. The flavor is dominated by sweet, roasted malts with some caramel notes and a bit of hops in the finish. The carbonation is livelier than expected, but not unpleasantly so. The body is a little thinner than I would have liked in a winter brew, but not bad. Overall it’s a pretty good brew.

Deep red-brown body, thin light tan head. Aroma of toast, toffee, brown sugar, and earthy hops, perhaps a touch of grapeskin. Rich, bready body, with layers of toast and candies, hints of butterscotch, with a touch of dark fruit. Long, caramely finish. A bit more strongly carbonated than most lagers.

Pours is a deep, dark red. Aroma is very hoppy and fruity. Flavor is malty and sweet but very dull and watery. The aroma is the best thing about this brew. Average at best.
