Unlike traditional German wheat beers produced by other breweries, Abita Wheat is a lager, not an ale, contains a generous amount of wheat and, therefore, has a clean, simple flavor.

Bottle. Pours a yellow gold with paperthin white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is a skunk grass and corn malt. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet corn malt and honey. Decent pale lager.

12 ounce bottle into pilsener glass, best before 9/27/2012. Pours lightly cloudy pale straw color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lemon, pear, biscuit, wheat, pepper, grass, herbal, floral, grape, and light earthiness. Pretty good aromas here actually; fairly weak, but they have a typical well balanced German lager feel to them. Taste of grass, bread, wheat, herbal, earth, pear, and pepper. Lingering notes of light grass and bread on the finish for a short bit. Extremely bland in the flavor department, almost like carbonated water for real. Extremely dry on the finish as expected for the lack of flavors. Medium carbonation and light body; with an extremely crisp and dry mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming noticed as expected for 4.2%. Overall a pretty mediocre wheat lager. The aromas were pretty good, but the lack of flavor was a let down. It is certainly crisp, clean, and drinkable though.

Wow this is really not a very good beet. Sulfury wheaty nose , some dust and hay. Hint of lemon. flavor similar but very light almost bland. Golden color, a bit hazy, modest lacing. Weird chemical after taste.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours clear light golden with small white head. Little lacing, light body, and little carbonation. Taste is light malt, a little metallic and hint of hops. Really boring.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Slightly hazy golden with a big white head. Aroma of citrus and some cereals graininess. Sweetish fruity flavor with some wheat, citrus, graininess, bread and a drier, lightly bitter finish. Rather light-bodied. Drinkable.

0.33L bottle, small stable head, a little deep gold clear colour, light aroma of wheat with a hint of mushroom, flavour of wheat and citrus with a light but persistent bitterness, extremely dry. Dull and boring.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine Richmond, VA, north location, for which they overcharged me for and then the cashier took the bottle and spoke to a manager for several minutes about how to give me a refund when I was in a hurry and had already told him twice that I didn’t need a refund. Asses. I bet they didn’t even fix the price in the system, which is the only reason I said anything in the first place. Oh yeah, the beer... This pours a hazy pale orange color with not much of a head. Aroma of biscuity bread notes, bitter hops and a grainy note. The taste is fruity with light grainy notes. Watered down, thin and slightly dirty. I think I honestly prefer Bud Light Golden Wheat to this.

Bottle from Sun Devil in Mesa, AZ. Gold color with a creamy off-white head. Aromas of grain and citrus. Almost medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is wheat with a touch of citrus. Crisp, clean, refreshing, and it tastes good!

Abita definitely has some interesting beers that are different from the rest. This is listed as an American wheat and it does say wheat on the label. Brown 12 oz short stubby bottle with a twist off cap. It pours somewhat like a wheat, with just a little haze. The color is a somewhat lemon yellow hue. Has a hint of aroma that is yeasty and somewhat wheaty in nature. The initial flavor is somewhat bitter, and is not much like other wheat flavors I am familiar with. It is more somewhat lager-like with hints of bitterness. Good carbonation with constantly rising bubbles that don’t really qualify as lacing. Finish is interesting, medium bitterness that fades rapidly. This beer wears the costume of a wheat but has the personality of a mild ale-like lager. I’ve tasted pale lagers that are more wheatlike than this.

Hmm... this beer is paler than Piels and has minimal head. Smells somewhat yeasty and wheaties-like. Tastes much the same. Pretty much a bready beer with not too much taste as a whole, but it is very easy and refreshing to drink. Nothing offensive at all.
