Although hard to comprehend for many, this is the big brother of Hel & Verdoemenis. With loads of dark malts in both back and foreground, supported by strong but smooth bitterness from hops and roasted malts. Flavor indication: chocolate, coffee, toast

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, bitter dark chocolate, espresso, liquorice, with a definite touch of candied dark fruits, marzipan and hops. Flavour is sweet and rather present hoppy roasty bitterness. Body is full. Quite nice with lots of chocolate, coffee, roast, but some fruits and hops as well. Surprisingly bitter.

Been sitting in the cellar for nearly 10 years. Black with a thin but frothy, beige head. Aroma promises roasted chocolate, oak, and plum juice. Taste is bittersweet with a mild toasted bitterness over a sweet, malty base. Faint, faint berry-like tartness. Body to the full side of medium, very mild carbonation. Mellow and smooth throughout. Good one.

Well, I could not be happier to end this quest for high IBUs than with this tasty bugger.

0,33l bottle. Pours black with no head. Aroma is sweet as hell, but at same time toasty, it's earthy, plenty of chocolate, some alcohol. Altogether serious notes. Taste is heavy sweet and heavenly bitter. Texture is oily, carbonation minimal, body full. Finish is long, starts bittersweet and fades to lasting sticky, toasty bitterness.

Bottle (bottled 08/05/2009, sampled 15/01/2021, bottle 281/432): Literally black, small tanned foamy layer, solid sweet-bitter roasty and (port-)vinous nose, molasses well detectable, flowery (?) and herbal-spicy hops underneath; solid sweet and bitter flavour, accompanied by a mild but typical acidity; full bodied, silky MF; lingering - slightly drier - spicy-hoppy and roasty-chocolatey finish with warming alcohol in the aftertaste. Really good...

Prost!

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 1 March 2020) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, strong black coffee and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, liquorice, espresso, black rye bread and a generous roasty bitterness. Full body, with a slight sweetness. Chewy, rich and powerful. Solid and well made imperial stout. Great beer.
