Created in 1968 to commemorate the renowned English writer, Thomas Hardy’s Ale is a limited edition barley wine. Numbered and vintage-dated to be stored for years (even over 25 years, according to those who have made it in the past); this legendary beer is finally back in production. A piece of English history we would like to share with you.

How: Bottle.
Where: Sweet & Sour 2016.
Appearance: Dark golden colour with a small white head.
Aroma: Dried fruit, caramel, plum, alcohol.
Body: Full body, medium carbonation.
Flavour: Dried fruit, caramel, bread.
Comment: Will most likely improve with age. Too young to drink now, save it at least three years and try it then.

Bottle courtesy of Machusch. Pours tiny hazy caramel brown with a small beige head that doesnät leave much trace on the glass while dissiapting. Smell is malty and slightly herbal with crackers, caramel, toffee, hay, minerals and lemon peal. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and herbal. Mouthfeel is round, oily, tiny astringent, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, toffee, sweet dark bread, hay, dried flowers, minerals, lemon peal and alcohol. Solid base but made for aging. --- Beer merged from original tick of Thomas Hardy's Ale on 13 Apr 2018 at 11:56 - Score: 8. Original review text: From Wednesday. Very nice toffee / fudge malt base in this latest TH iteration. Give it some time to develop some sherry like oxidation & this vintage should be great!
