Can shared at the Beau in London tasting, last group tasting for 7 months - who knew, thanks to Danny 11/03/20. Black with a decent tan covering that retains well. Nose is bitter chocolate, ripe dark fruits, spice, coffee bean, mellow bourbon. Taste comprises dried fruits, toffee, brown sugar melt, coffee grinds, mellow barrel, light roast, cacao nibs. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Decent approachable impy but lacking barrel presence for me.

Can shared in London - cheers to Dan. Pours clear, deep brown with a frothy, beige head. So so, some chalky cocoa, ashy roast, dried dark fruits. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more dried fruits, cocoa. Nifty.

330ml can. Black with a tan head. Aroma is very oaky, cocoa power, coffee with dried fruits. Taste features a ton of cocoa powder, strong oaky notes, coffee and dried/berry fruits (possibly from the coffee), vanilla, sweet, boozy, dry. Full bodied, smooth. Good stuff but honestly I think the base beer was better.

JAN-2020. Opaque black, espresso head with nice lacing. The aroma has that dry fortified white wine, dried stone fruit, oaky character that is quite strong, shadowing much of the sweet syrupy chocolate of the base beer. So is the taste: way drier and oakier (and slightly salty!?) - wouldn't call it downright tart - than the base beer. There's still quite a bit of sweetness behind, but that only serves for balance. Nice and interesting, but honestly, feels a bit like an accident, a great beer that is almost there but not quite. 4,0/5.
