Draught, half-pint at Craft & Cleaver in Milton Keynes. Shared with Finn. Remaining white head leaving crocheted lacing on the glass, cloudy golden body. Grain and apple skins on the nose. Mixed taste of mid-sweet apples, grain and grass. Mid-dry ending. Okay pilsener. (12.02.2019).

Keg from the Mad Squirrel mobile bar at the High Wycombe Christmas Lights Switch On. A huge thanks to Mad Squirrel for putting on a mobile bar (despite their venue being nearby) and giving me the opportunity to have a decent beer during this overly long-winded event. Frankly I needed it after fighting my way through the huge traffic jams it caused - would have given up if my daughter hadn't been so keen to get to the event. Anyway, moaning aside, the beer was a slightly hazy pale gold colour with a thin white head and a light fizz. The flavour is mainly grassy, with a white bread background and floral and citrus notes. It's a sweetish brew with a lightly crisp finish. I've never been a fan of lager, but there seem to be more lagers around lately where I think "this one's not to bad actually", and Flying Squirrel falls into that category. Maybe I'm being converted and the day will come when I actually look forward to having a lager... but I'm not quite there yet.

Keg from the VAT and Fiddle, Nottingham. Very light yellow, almost straw, with a ring of white head. Lots of lacing. Light floral scent with lemon peel and a touch of vanilla. Sweet taste with lots of raw husky grain on the tongue. Heavily carbonated. A fairly middle-of-the-road Pilsener.

Can at home. Chilled down to within an inch of its life and drunk sitting in the garden before dinner. A light, frothy and fun English style pilsner that was perfect for the heat, time of day and the company. Just plain old enjoyable.

Six half-pints of different Mad Squirrel beers in their High Wycombe outlet, shared with the wife on 2nd April 2018. Theydon_Bois (Colin) brought us here before the big match (Wycombe v Grimsby Town). On-tap, Keg. Refreshing Pilsner with a light citrus leaning and a mini sweetness below the hop bitterness. Usual crystal clear, golden body and fast receding white head you expect to see in a Pilsner.

High Wycombe Walkabout. Red Squirrel Tap Room. Keg. Almost clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and has decent fine carbonation. Thin malts do have some lager character. Mild floralness. Dry seltzer. Floralness gets bitterish on the thin semi dry finish. Thin and dry.
