20.05.2017, tap @ Bergen Craft Beer Festival:
Nice fizzy-creamy mediumlasting head, hazy. Aroma is grassy, old lawn, hay, leafs, minerals, light malts, very overripe fruits, hops, flowers, moss. Taste is slightly sweet grassy, leafs, light malts, moss, sugar, dried fruits, hops, light malts, oatmeal, fruit stones. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry grassy mouthfeel. Fair enough, too sweet.

Double IPA from this Göteborg craft brewery, this one apparently made at Stigbergets. Bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck. Egg-white, bubbly, irregular head, leaving some disparate dots of lacing and a rather thin moussy rim plus some thicker ’islands’ in the middle, over a deep golden blonde beer with slight olive green hue, very lightly hazy at first but more misty with a warmer ochre-ish tinge after adding the sediment. Aroma of pear peel, green melon flesh, old wrinkled apples, stale lime juice, unripe banana, white bread dough, pomelo, white pepper, pond water, some raw pineapple, very old white wine, soapy wheat, powder sugar, grass, old dried yellow grapefruit peel, soap, something vaguely ’stinky’ (old urine), potato mash, old paper and a very subtle touch of band aid-like phenols - in all, coming across more like a ’Belgian IPA’ or a tripel discretely pimped with New World hops than a true, ’fully armored’ American style DIPA, this bottle must be past its prime already. Very fruity onset, sweet with a sourish edge, hints of raw pineapple, unripe melon, pear and starfruit, medium carbonation, supple and slick, bit oily mouthfeel. Light breadiness underneath with a grainy edge but something very softly sourish and soapy as well - clearly the wheat, providing a mellowing effect. Hop bitterness kicks in towards the finish, quite drying and spicy, dried wormwood-like with retronasal grapefruit and white pepper notes, even a very light piney accent, but not nearly as expressive as I expect from a top notch DIPA. Malt juiciness and fruity, lightly estery notes seep through and gin-like alcohol reinforces the hop bitterness and warms the chest while even leaving behind a light wryness on the root of the tongue. Alcohol could have been a bit better hidden, but the lack of lush, grapefruity, piney or otherwise expressive hop aromas is my biggest concern here; I guess they have significantly faded after some time on the shelf and that is perfectly normal, but of course I have to rely on this single sample to rate this one so I should probably revisit it fresh. The way it reached me now, I can sense Belgian notes too, especially on the phenolic level - and in combination with the wheat and the restrained ’hop fragrance’, this makes this a bit Belgian IPA-like as stated before; if this were the intention (which I think it was not), this would even have been a very enjoyable one at that. In all, and taking into account that this sample should have been younger: decent beer as such, just expected a more expressive West Coast DIPA nose and taste, so I am left slightly disappointed. Yet nothing can ever wreck my faith in these new Swedish craft brewers anymore considering the majestic beauties they have so often delivered on other occasions...

hazy pale yellow colour, medium sized off-white head; aroma of (almost rotten)apricot, passionfruit, mango and alcohol; taste of very overripe, almost rotten passion fruit, mango and apricot, malty sweetness, slight celery and alcohol; not bad, but far from being a perfect IIPA

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a hazy golden with a white head. Dank hop aroma, medicinal almost. Heavy fruitiness, sugary, alcohol somewhat annoying with a bitter finish. Surprisingly rough and unrefined considering the brewery. 290317
