Box @ Cellar Bar, Chester. Pours misty yellow, aroma is wild, sour, bitter fruit. Taste presents quite a vicious bite, that seems somewhat foreign to Butford's bottled range, bringing to mind the likes of Gwatkins, Ralphs or other such farmhouse producers in its highly astringent ways. Chalky, cheesy, sweaty socks notes bind with this sour astringent character in a way that's difficult to like. An acquired taste.

Merton Beer Festival Sat 18th Feb. The strength of this stated 5.5% on the polypin. For someone who enjoys the occasional cider and perry but is far from an expert this really was very good. A hazy deep golden colour that poured very still, full of flavour but not as sharp as I was expecting. I had a couple of these and particularly enjoyed their perry as well.
