Bottle from Chester Beer and Wine. Pours black, some faint ruby red showing in the light. Thin beige head. Nice roasty aroma with big coffee notes. Taste is the same with some of the vanilla essence helping to give sweetness without tasting artificial. Quite dry with a lightness of body to counterbalance. Good.

500ml bottle: BB Feb 2019. Poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 7th Apr 2018. Black/very dark brown body, large tanned crown on top. Chocolate like maltiness in the nose, again in the taste, roasted malts rule the flavours, slight vanilla notes as the beer warmed a little in the tankard. Liked it.

Cask @ Coach & Horses, Shrewsbury. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is light chocolate, smooth dark malts. Quite light on the palate with mild chocolate, dark malts and very faint mirage like coffee on the finish. No detectable vanilla, and very little coffee to speak of, but it’s a pleasant smooth chocolate porter.
