Draught @ GIST, Brussels. Smooth, earthy and floral with some fruity yeastiness and citrus. Decent.

Tap @ Gist.

No Science’s way of supporting that hyped new Gist pub in Brussels – which I urgently need to visit, as I stumbled upon this tick not in Brussels, but in Ghent. Anyway: tightly cobweb-lacing, egg-white, medium thick, rather creamy head on a hazy straw blonde beer with light peachy tinge. Aroma of green apples, unripe banana, straw, white bread, wet paper, raw turnip juice, mineral water, white pepper, raw iceberg lettuce, dried field flowers. Clean onset, low in sweetness with only restrained, unripe banana- and green apple-like fruitiness, sharpish and minerally carb, smooth dried white bread-like, cereally pale maltiness ending in a lingering, ‘modern’ but in all still relatively gentle, grassy and bit oily hop bitterness, while minerally flavours linger and accentuate this bitterness a bit. A hoppy Belgian blonde which is not really Belgian in that it lacks esters and phenols – perhaps the most fitting style category here is modern, hoppy, English golden ale… Not bad, technically correct, very quaffable and straightforward, but perhaps a bit… empty? Unlike the garage in question, I assume.
