keer gedistilleerd in zogenoemde koperen ‘Pot Stills’ en moet het daarna nog minimaal twee jaar rijpen in barriques, traditioneel gemaakt van Franse Limousin of Tonçais eiken. Om de bijzondere geur en smaak van de cognac optimaal tot zijn recht te laten komen zijn voor deze batch 100 procent cognac Limousin barriques gebruikt.
Batch 36 presenteert zich met een fijn geparelde schuimkraag. De kleur is een stuk donkerder dan de normale Quadrupel.
In de geur is direct een zeer subtiele en verfijnde cognactoets herkenbaar met hierin druiven, gedroogd fruit, amandel en nootmuskaat.
De smaak is te omschrijven als warm en fluweelzacht. De bitterheid is lager dan bij de normale Quadrupel en is meer naar de achtergrond verdrongen. De ondertoon van het bier is prettig zoet, zeker ook door het hoge alcoholgehalte wat tot bijna 12 procent is opgelopen. In de nasmaak komen de moutige karamel en ester tonen terug, samen met het eikenhout, en natuurlijk de cognac.
Deze batch Quadrupel Oak Aged is in diverse opzichten uniek te noemen.
Batch 36 is geblend in augustus 2019.

It is a year to the date of losing our close friend, Sid. Reflecting on that and lifting a toast with Batch #36 tonight. Always a delight to sample a different La Trappe offering, especially these quadrupel releases. The better quads get my Trappistes Rochefort glass, obviously the case tonight. Release the cage and the cork to the 375 ml bottle and make the pour, an opaque copper brown liquid with a decent representation of light tan bubbles. Good carbonation, an issue I've had with previous batches. Great scent of course, dark ripe fruit and some yeastiness. And the taste, oh my, first class. I determine raisins, malt, honey, wood, plums, nectarines and white bread. This is worth the effort to obtain and the cost. Delightful.

Corked bottle. Dark brown color. Raisin, bubblegum, vanilla and cognac in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with oak, vanilla, bubblegum, cognac. Complex, but not my favorite of this serie.

Bottle shared at tasting. Nice dark red vrown color, small offwhite head. Aroma and flavor is malts, caramel, somewhat sugary and some liquor. A bit young and unbalanced maybe. Although maybe this time I am a little too drunk to judge it properly. 6-6,5-6,5-7-7=6.6 -- Short rerate July 17th 2020: good appearance, smell and tastemalts, raisins, light cognac, sugary, more balanced than the first time I tried this. 7-7-7-7-7.

Bottle at home, red/brown beer, small head. Aroma is malt, caramel, sweet, raisins, cognac, wood. Taste is the same, sweet, light bitter, caramel, fruity, cognac burn a bit. very nice.

Bottle. Color: Copper to ruby, thin off-white head. Aroma: Sweetish, boozy cognac, herbal notes of nutmeg, light notes of dark fruit and caramel. Taste: Starting fruity notes of dark fruit, pretty fast overwhelmed by boozy, pretty strong alcoholic Cognac and oak wood notes, some nutmeg, vanilla, almond and light hints of white grapes. Pretty much tannins, dry mouthfeel. Pretty long lasting finish. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Above moderate to medium sweet, moderate bitterness. Different from other La Trappe Oak Aged I've had, the barrel ageing is pretty much overwhelming the taste of the Quadrupel. Nice complexity, nice beer.
