De Poortwachter is een speciaaltje, een porter gebrouwen met boerenjongens (op brandewijn gelegde rozijnen) en vanille. Zwart van smaak, heerlijk zacht. Geniet! 65 EBC.

0.15 l on tap at the brewery. A little hazy, reddish amber with a beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity, a little herbal aroma of caramel, dark honey, some licorice root and raisins. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly fruity and a little herbal taste of caramel, dark honey, raisins, licorice root and some raisins, followed by a short, moderately bitter, hardly roasty finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Not really what you could expect from a Porter, other than that okay.

23 June 2021. At Slot Oostende, Goes. Shared with the lovely Anke! Clear (?) brown, thin, tan head. Aroma of wet toast, pistachio, clove, old chocolate, raisin. Taste has sweetish fig & prune, sourish brambleberry, soft toasty & nutty maltiness. Herbal hoppy finish, liquorice, dried fruit, weirdly sourish. Medium to light body, slick texture, average carbonation. Way too thin on the palate and in malty profile, just weird, and lacking in the promised ingredients.

23/III/19 - 33cl bottle @ Strandpaviljoen Panta Rhei, Vetzakkenweekend (Zeeland edition, NL), BB: 19/VII/20 - (2019-403)

Clear red brown beer, small creamy irregular off-white head, little stable, falls down quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: pretty oxidized, bit malty, caramel notes. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very malty, metallic kind of bitterness, rather unpleasant, bit chemical, soft roast, caramel. Aftertaste: bitter and unpleasant, chemical impression, some solvent, caramel, bit sugary, overripe banana, varnish. And where's my vanilla? This beer is a joke. Slot Oostende can do much better. No beer geek would ever consider this beer close to a porter. More like a Belgian Dubbel if anything.

Thnx for sharing! Pours copper brown. No real head. Smell is tad sweet. Earthy. Taste is sharp. Tad bitter. Spice. Very plastic. Fermented way to warm, very off.

Very dark brown with thin head. Aroma and flavour have some slightly caramelised malts. Not particularly intense or bitter but well balanced.

Medium, fairly dense cream-beige head, pitting in over hazy nut-brown beer. Sweet-roasted nose. Bit of dried fruit and indeed sweet alcohol - though I would have guessed rum rather than jenever or brandy. Wood, liquorice, cardboard. Though a lot of sweet components are traceable (the raisins, the melanoidin-rich malt), the spirit lends a dryness to the beer that fortifies the woody traits. Sweet chocolate, liquorice, figs, raisins. The vanilla remains hidden. Feels better carbonated than it looks. Medium bodied at best, bit gristslick. In the end, not half bad. I could live with this, if not too long. "Porter" fits a bit awkward on the flavourprofile, but these days.. "Black" taste?? Somebody loves Magritte in Goes. 6/4/7/3/14

Bottle from Euro Secret Santa. Thanks Benzai. Pours brown, the head only holds shortly before fizzing away. Aroma is caramel, vanilla, chocolate, new plastic. Taste is sweet with an odd mix of flavors: Zuckerrüben, sweet corn, vanilla, hints of sarsaparilla. Body stays fairly light for the style. Interesting but does not quite come together.

Bottle @ home. Pretty light colour for a porter. Brown with a medium sized beige head. Smells sweet, roasty, some caramel, there also a quite offputting smell that I can’t really describe. Something like rotting leafs or sulphur or something. Swampy. Tastes malty, boozy, sharp, also the rotting leafs thing. Pretty bad imo. Medium body, almost no carbo. Not at all what I was expecting.

Flesje gedeeld met Tomhendriksen. Donkerbruin helder bier met bier met matig schuim dat snel weg trekt. Aroma van karamel. Smaak van koffie en donker fruit. Nasmaak is iets bitter.
