A wave of tropical fruit and spice brighten this lively, tart wheat ale, taking the German Berliner Weisse tradition on an island run. Hopfentea, steeped on a house-made tea blend of mango, papaya, hibiscus & lemongrass, pairs well with light appetizers, salads and high humidity.

Bottle at De Garde quarterly. Pours a cloudy copper gold with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is wheat, dough, floral. Medium mouth, tart lemon, funky, light dryness, good.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Hazy light orange with medium white head. Aroma is light tart, light body, medium/well carbonated, and some lacing. Taste is nice tart and some apricot. Good Berliner.

Very hazy golden and light copper coloured body with a thinnish, very fast-dying off-white head. Aroma of sour grapes, pale wheat, lemons, a touch of yeast and a pungent metallic note. Light-bodied; Very sour flavour up front with wheat, grass, lemons, limes and a touch of brett coming through, all with a light bready and yeast flavour at the end. Aftertaste is sour and fresh all at the same time, but very refreshing...however not complex at all nor impressive. Overall, quite a bit underwhelming with only the sour and fresh wheat notes being nice - no real depth and not much fruitiness either. I’m sure this has such high ratings due to the reputation of Perennial, but this is a decent Berliner Weiss at best. I sampled this from draught in a thirty-two ounce growler fill from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia earlier today on 31-May-2015 for US$10,00 / 32oz sampled at home in Washington.

Part of a stellar tasting lineup at K&L Wines in Redwood City. Moderate low tartness and the tea was noticeable, but did not add too much.

On tap at The Collective Tap, pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is bland, with light notes of tea. Flavour is the same, with herbal tea notes. Light citric tartness on the finish. Not a fan of this - very weak.
