Bottle at Kantien, another of Andy Dewilde's many 'boutique beers', produced in limited quantities and bottled with black and white label. Thick and dense, creamy, pale yellowish beige head, hazy mahogany brown beer with ruddy hue, dark but translucent. Aroma of milk chocolate, candied dates, brown rum, lots of caramel sauce and fudge, brown sugar melting on a hot pancake, Belgian chocolates, wodka, gingerbread, ripe blue plum. Sweet onset, candied dates, medlar and raisins, some baked banana and ripe blue grape, sourish edge, prickly carbonation but still smooth, full and rounded, bit creamy mouthfeel. Thick caramelly and eventually chocolatey malt sweet body with a very mildly bittering toasty edge as can be expected from the style, light herbal hop bitterishness in the finish mixed with a strong dosis of heating, in the end a bit overly wry, rum-like alcohol; chocolatey malt sweetness lingers. Just a tad too boozy in the finish for me, but other than that, this is a very tasty and well-executed interpretation of what is essentially a classic 20th-century Belgian style with Scottish roots. Very pleasant, sweet and rich sipper, enjoyed it a lot.
