A year after the launch of Bushy’s Gibraltar Barbary Beer in the colony, signs show that the brew - a partnership between the Manx brewers and the Gibraltarian Importers, Lewis Stagnetto, is proving highly popular with locals and visitors alike. Bushy’s boss Martin has recently fostered links, after an epic drive through France and Spain with wife, Debbie, with the Botanical gardens on the colony and they are growing hops for the next brew. It is believed that this coming brew will be the first ever beer to contain hops grown on Gibraltar.

500ml bottle [An ultimate thanks to Maddie for catering this singularity all the way down from that small Euro spot!]. Cristal-clear, dark amber colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Slightly grainy and bready, caramel malty aroma, hints of spelt and wholemeal bread. Taste is moderately sweet caramel malty, slightly grainy, a touch of burnt caramel, wholemeal bread, treacle, bitter counterweight seems to have a burnt caramel origin rather than to date from any hop agency. So-so.

Bottle. (thanks Wolff) Clear dark golden with a white head. Aroma of malt, caramel and some dried fruit. Similar taste. The body was on the light side as was the bitterness. The finish was on the sweet side. Drinkable but nothing special.

Bottle: Poured a clear light brown color ale with a medium off-white foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of light dry caramel malt notes is pleasant enough. Taste is a mix of dry cereal notes with light dry caramel notes also coming out. Body si about average for style with good carbonation. Honest for the style and one of the best offering I could find in Gibraltar.

500ml bottle provided by djoeye. Fair off-white head that laced well over a deep amber-brown body. Brown malty aroma. Slightly roasted malty flavours, moments of toffee and leafy hops. Bittersweet endnotes. Soft in the mouth. Easy to drink . Pizza friendly. (Tromsø 06.08.2016).

Flaske 500ml. Anskaffet av djoeye. Drukket på Bergstua 26 Jul 16. Gylden. Lavt tett skum. Aroma av malt med spor av karamell. Smaken malt & metall. Blir tørr & papiraktig etter hvert. Avslutter tørt. Mitt første fra Gibraltar!

Bottle from Lewis Stagnetto, Main St, Gibraltar. Country #135. Pours golden brown with a small lasting white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, and light hop. Medium+ sweetness, light but slightly tart bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Finish is sweet but with a slightly unpleasant edge. Good tick but beer a bit disappointing.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Cris for this bottle! Clear deep golden with a white head. Aroma of chalky malt, caramel, honey note, fruity note, and a bitterish earthy hops finish. Light to medium-bodied. Not so good, an not really a Brown Ale.
