Cozy up to the fire with a pint of pFriem’s Winter Ale and gift your taste-buds with hints of spice, orange zest, caramel and a touch of spruce tree. You may even sense the subtle notes of fruitcake, which might encourage you to share this Winter Ale with your family and friends. Unlike fruitcake, this is a beer that will not be re-gifted.

Bottle shared by Bryan, thanks. Light brown color. A little caramel, and dominated by hops. Very dry flavor. Abrasive hops, finishing the bottle migjt be difficult

Copper with a tall rocky head. Citrus, orange, candied tropical fruit, evergreen, light sugary caramel malts, slight brown sugar. The resin hops are quite intense but still balanced with the other traits. It can get bit much after a full pint, but a great beer regardless.

500mL bottle, pours a hazy amber orange with a medium white head. Nose is very malty, with loads of caramel, some toffee, orange zest, and some resinous hops underneath. Flavour is along the same lines, with a big bready caramel malt body characterizing this, with subtle notes of orange zest, and a nice resinous hop quality. Wonderfully balanced and with a robust, chewy body. Super drinkable and delicious.

Bottle thanks to Bryan. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A big sweet fruity nose. The flavor is pine, bitter, oranges, sweet toast.

Keg at Baileys Taproom, PDX, 11/11/14. Clear amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is biscuit, hops, caramel malt, light tropicana, mandarin. Taste comprises juicy hops, light pine, bitter orange, pinch of spice, caramel malt. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sem drying close with hop bitterness. Well balanced number, hoppy amber, not what I’d class as a winter ale per say!
