Qua-Dubbel is a modern interpretation of classic Trappist style. A beer in which we have brought together the best of quadruples (character) and Belgian dubbel (drinkability) into a unique beer! Rich mix of roasted and dark malts with aroma of coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Supportive hop mix, with aromatic varieties with subtle citrus accents. Top fermentation, yeast strain with rich bouquet of esters.

Kruidig met wat banaan, graan en chocolade. Redelijk zoet. Als een dunkelweizen of een weizenbock ook wel.

22/XI/19 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 3/X/21 - (2019-1890)
Clear dark brown to black beer, big solid creamy beige head, stable, non adhesive. Aroma: caramel, soft roast, ripe banana esters, dried fruits, raisins. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: nice roast, bit spicy, banana, some coffee, malty, little bitter, dry, some alcohol. Aftertaste: lots of overripe banana, banana peel, esters, soft roast, spicy, cloves, some cardamom, dusty, bit sourish, lots of alcohol, not a big fan of all that alcohol.
Paired with a lobster bisque, but didn't work out very well...

The 33 cl bottle was obtained from a friendly Belgian retailer, always fortunate to locate an untried quadrupel. I will lift into my Buffalo Bayou chalice for this tasting. The foam comes to greet me early, not a problem this time. The head is emphatic with a dense, doe-brown color. Underneath is a liquid that is as dark a brown you can get without being black. The scent pleasant, plum and raisin with a floral indication. And the taste now, better than anticipated. Cherry, dark fruit, bread and a curious hint of the vine. Some dubbelish qualities and a dry finish. Quite decent.

33cl bottle from Proxy Delhaize Grande Haie in Brussels. F: big, tanned, long lasting. C: dark brown with coppery hue against the light, bit hazy. A: dark malts, dark fruits, chocolate, dark caramel, bit roasted tones, banana, dried fruits. T: dark malts, dark fruits, banana, chocolate, bit cocoa, coffee, bit spicy, herbal, dark bread crust, full body and medium to high carbonation, quite nice balanced yet not Dubbel style for me but beside this enjoyable Quadruple.

Bottle from a Delhaize (Dok Noord). Pours hazy dark brown with a big, lasting, foamy, beige head; irregular lacing. Strong aroma of pear syrup, apple cake, candied plum, marzipan, licorice, milk chocolate, toast, gingerbread, faint solvent (but not obnoxious), very creamy coffee with lots of sugar. Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, lots of marzipan & sugary dough, fruity notes offer plum & apple cake, ripe pear renders it somewhat phenolic; light spicy bitter then, gingerbread & licorice next to faint, tea-like herbal note, some very creamy mocha too. Dryish, herbal, bit earthy hoppy finish, lingering ripe (or candied) fruit, caramel & spices, and a firm dash of warming liqueur, almost brown rum-like alcohol. Medium to full body, creamy/syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Rich & full Belgian Quad (Dubbel? Nah), tacky name though.

33cl Bottle from AH. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of some roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, some tobacco. Flavour is light to medium sweet, malty, some roast, light fruity, cocoa, bittersweet finish. Medium bodied at best. Expected more depth and body, bit of disappointment tbh.
