Shared @ Koelschtrinker's tasting. Sweetish sticky beginning. Alcohol, wood, wine. Woody hints of red port, alcohol, sticky dry caramel, bitter. Overloaded with no distinct flavour. Intense boozy in the end.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy brown color ale with a medium off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of heavily caramelized malt notes with some light port notes is quite enticing. Taste is also a good mix of light port wine, some oak with heavily caramelized malt with just enough residual sugar notes. Body is full with good carbonation and no real apparent alcohol notes. Super enjoyable barleywine with good level of complexity while retaining some good drinkability.

Almost clear deep reddish amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Fairly light malts, a whisper of caramel. Spicy mid, some tongue tingling alcohol here but it's not at all hot. Trace of wood. Decent porty red berries carry through the fairly light finish. Tidy barleywine, but a richer smoother malt base would have sent this in to the 4s.

330 ml. bottle @ Cerveteca Lisboa. BBF 01-2037 (seriously? This stuff is definitely going to be oxidized rubbish long before that). Very dark brown,… Nose is thick dark liquorice, low umami, dark fruits, massive Porto, vinous, soy say syrup, intense. Challenging oxidized massive figs, massive Porto, vineous, dark fruit, caramelized, barrel, pure syrup, liquorice,… thick dark fruit Porto syrup. Massive, challenging intense, Porto, liquorice, figs, some umami,… Massive, finest Portuguese beer so far for me. Massive.

Re-rating (previous 4.0) Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 33B: Port / 17D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L135-2018 (BBF 12-2039). AROMA: medium-high Port barrel notes, medium-low to low toffee presence with a faint background note of wood. medium-low alcohol note with a slight peppery character. APPEARANCE: dark amber color with ruby highlights and slightly hazy with material in suspension. low beige head with low retention. leg formation. TASTE: medium Port notes with a low wood and slight vanilla presence. low toffee-like malt background. medium-low bitterness with a dry finish. PALATE: medium-high body with low carbonation. alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a more muted barleywine from the Port barrel than the previous tasted sample, rendering it a bit unbalanced.
