An energetic off white head on a deep brown body. Nose is chocolate, roasted nuts, coffee and malt. Very clean, brown ale first taste. Ground nuts, milk chocolate, mild coffee and some caramel create a nice understated taste profile. Body is appropriate for a 4.5% ale. Tasty and balanced.

Can from the brewery. Pours a clean copper-brown colour with amber highlights. The head is beige, average lasting with some nice creamy lacing. Aromas feel like on the chocolate side with cocoa notes. Then, the nuttiness takes over with some light hops in the background. These take presence in the taste though, over the nutty and roasted malts. Lightly-bodied, so decent for a session British ale. Maybe a little too hoppy for a real one, but good for an North American version.

Smells roasty with a nutty aroma. A little bitter. Mahogany colour with a little lacing. Some sourness in this, some oak and a little smoke as well. Not bad for style. On tap.

Bottle: Poured a clear light brown color ale with a large foamy head with light retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry malt notes with unrefined grain notes. Taste is also dominated by very dry caramel malt with unrefined grain notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. A bit too dry and astringent for my taste with very light nutty touch.

A clear brown ale with a thin lacing off white head. Aroma of flour and water paste, with chocolate and mineral notes. In mouth, a good roasted malt with popcorn, cereals. Very interesting but the aroma is off putting. On tap at Brouhaha, May 2008.
