By the time ESB launched in 1971, breweries had long been in the habit of producing an ‘ordinary’ bitter and a ‘special’. Our special was the irreplaceable London Pride so we broke the mould and added a pioneering third style: an extra special bitter, brewed to a stronger 5.5% ABV. Since then, ESB has gone on to become a recognised beer style, imitated in breweries right across the world.

0.5 l bottle. Pours copper colour with off-white head. It has biscuits and malts in aroma, combined with some bitterness. Its taste is just lake the aroma, well combined malts and hops result is bittersweetness. It has a relatively long, bitter finish, soft carbonation and light to medium body. Exactly like I imagine an ESB.

On cask at volo during fullers take over night. Well, this was a beautiful, uk hoppy, biscuity malty outstanding beer. But honestly i didnt see that much of a difference between the cask and the bottle if anything, i like the carbonation in the bottle. Makes it more lovely, and aromatic. Dont get me wrong cask is awesome, but this wasnt better than the regualr bottle.

great orangy/brown color. great lacing on my glass. Aroma is super nice, very heafty onthe english hops, and a really nice caramel aroma too. Flavour is very very nice. Very well balanced, between the hops, and the malt. Bitterness is very smooth. Extremely well made, and very tasty brew.

Aroma of malt, caramel, raisins, spicy notes. Flavour is moderate sweet with a medium bitter finish. In general I’m not a big fan of English Bitter’s, that being said this is one of the better ones I’ve had.

Cask. Nose is malt, lightly fruity. Taste is very malty, brown bread, leading to caramel, nutty, light berry and lifted by a very lightly medicinal hop note

Dark amber color with a mild floral aroma. Taste is moderately bitter and floral to start, with mild caramel malt flavor underneath. Dry, woody finish and with a lingering citrus flavor.
